    Pros

Coworkers were nice, duties were clearly delineated. An easy post-college job.

A little tedious, no room for growth, aging workforce.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people. Refresh your workforce, make it an interesting place to be.

I have been working at Westchester Community College full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are generally great. Great benefits but no raises or contract in 4 years. Campus environment is very nice and the students bring a nice energy to the campus.

    Cons

Management has been creating a very toxic environment for the past 2 years or so. People from all departments say the same thing, so it is not just the IT dept. Management likes to set people up for failure and then write them up for disciplinary issues. No real advancement opportunities, and most people don't want them anyways since you will just get abused more.

    Advice to Management

Provide support to your staff. Teach them in a positive professional manner instead of trying to show your power over them.

I worked at Westchester Community College (More than a year)

    Pros

WCC pays adjunct professors reasonably well, and adjuncts have quite a bit of autonomy.

    Cons

Off-site teaching can be challenging, particularly at the Yonkers campus, due to recalcitrant students. Further, the reasonable pay becomes less than when one considers the hours of grading, planning, etc.--but that is the life of a teacher. Also, WCC offers no benefits to adjuncts.

I have been working at Westchester Community College (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Students in the night classes are motivated and engaged. I have a laid-back, flexible, and supportive supervisor. Minimal bureaucracy.

    Cons

Its business model is to rely heavily on adjuncts. No matter how good you are, full-time positions almost never open up.

I worked at Westchester Community College (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Students are great, and most display effort. Administration leaves you alone for the most part.

    Cons

Administrations and department offer little in the way of support. As a semester to semester professor, you are a warm body. Yet, this is the case at many schools not just WCC.

    Advice to Management

Reach out to contingent faculty, and treat them like they are actually a part of the department they work under.

    Pros

Wonderful work environment, great pay & benefits.

    Cons

    Lack of communication btwn departments.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the worker bees!
