    Pros

    Benefits of a hospital
The new merge might be a good fit due to area if management really does their part

    Cons

Overworked and under paid for job description spread workers too thin and management is growing without need
Turnover here is for good reason
HR at this place is beyond a joke no details needed here and no I'm not a disgruntled worker
You will find plenty of negative stories regarding this hospital

Listen to your workers that do the job daily and make a real effort to help the department as a whole without personal feelings

    Pros

    -12 hour shifts
-Certifications give you about 1200 per year.
-Bachelors degree given you 90$ a month extra.
-Offer State Deferred Comp and mandatory NY Tier 6 retirement system.
-When you get passed the negative, some people shine to make your day great.
-Start off with 3 weeks vaca than in a few years it maxes to 5 weeks. 12 Holidays you can work for OT plus 11.5 hours in holiday bank. If you don't work it you just get 7.5 hours in holiday bank.
-Have a sick bank by NYSNA which allows you to put away like "emergency" sick time that can be used if you run out of regular sick time.
    -Have flex spending accounts.
-Have to pay for parking (20$ per month) which is where transit spending account come in.
    -Dependent flex spending account.
-Since new contract was shut down, free health care benefits.

    Cons

-Management changes can cause friction with current staff with the institution of new policies not required of NYSNA contract.
-High acuity of patients with inadequate staffing which in turn affects our ratings/ reimbursement.
-Depending on unit nurses do not work together and "dump" on the floats.
-Hard to move upwards since positions in upper management do not open up often.
-Certain units dictate the rules while other units have to follow them. If you aren't in ER or "privileged" unit, supervision is called and other actions are taken.
-Hospital will definitely never be Magnet certified with how they place patients together and staff units.
-High turn over rate for new grads. They get 1-2 years exp than leave.
-New proposed contract was shut down by nurses that was written up by NYSNA leaving nurses with expired contract (about 7ish years with no new nursing contract I think). Biggest issue I heard that nurses did like of the contract was paying 25$ single up to 100$ (4+ people) every two weeks for health insurance. Also older nurses (20ish years) did not like the new hires getting a bigger pay increase that would have put them in par with city hospital wage to prevent turn over. Capped wage would have been about 125-130k i think.
-Base pay is 33$ per hour. Than increases 90 cents per year. So you start off about 59k a year. City hospitals start off with 80k (most do).
-No maternity leave....you use all your holiday time and sick time than they give you a few weeks at half pay for maternity leave.
-Trying to contact services after 4pm and on call is a test of patience. Biggest culprits is medicine, trauma surgery, etc.

    Advice to Management

The rules are there for everyone. Enforce them on literally everyone and not have favorites. Keep your nurses happy than maybe you won't have such a high turn over rate.
