I worked at Westchester Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of overtime and staff who sleep around

    Cons

You will be used and abused not by the patients but by management itself. Short staffed and desperate for employees, they’ll mandate you to work everyday and completely disregard the expected rotation system by the books. Furthermore, Diamond’s so desperate for staff, they waiver minimal education requirements, resulting in majority of the staff there being ghetto, without quality experience and turning the environment just like any high school full of gossips, and where everyone literally hates each other there. Staff are known to be abusive and take advantage of nonverbal patients from physically restraining them against their will in their own rooms, putting misbehaving children in a chokehold, screaming at passive patients, or placing medically induced restraints whenever possible in order to sedate patients and make their days easier in their feeble attempts to milk the overtime hours, etc. It’s no different than a zoo and a place where you wouldn’t want to be near if you sought professional evaluations or adjustments in your medication regimen under supervision. If you ever work weekends, you WILL be mandated as the management delegates staff coordination to senior techs who feel it’s not their job and will just go around the building mandating everyone at the start of the morning while sipping on their iced coffee and stay on their phone at parts of the unit where the camera can’t see them. Any attempt to address these issues to administration will unfortunately be to no avail as they’ll just brush it under the carpet for the sake of keeping beds occupied and milk that insurance. Everything from the culture, staff behavior (ironically), administrations is ugly and is the ideal example of poor leadership. The kick is, all the nurses and nurse manages are in on it but keep a crisp and clean paper trail to keep it under-wraps.

    Advice to Management

Get a new sub-contractor and change management from the top. The Clinical supervisors either lack a backbone or will scoff at your face with such petty grin at any attempts to address the issues. The Director is new and is aware of the ongoing issue but unfortunately is brainwashed by the Clinical supervisor. All the staff from the techs to even the therapist all agree that the administrators are incompetent in running the place. The Co-Leadership agreement between WMC and Diamond is a joke as the Diamond administration masterfully keep WMC admin in the dark. Bravo!
