    Pros

The campus is located in the mountains of North Carolina. It is beautiful and lots of outdoor activities. It is a smaller university so you end up knowing everybody and being part of a community.

    Cons

The area is secluded which can be hard in the winter. Campus rarely has snow days, but the rest of the area will be shut down. That causes for dangerous situations with driving. I also believe there needs to be more changing of the faculty. Ten year faculty stay till beyond irrelevancy.

I worked at Western Carolina University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Beautiful area to live in.

    Cons

Most people in the department are part of the good ole boy system and afraid of breaking up their friends group.

    Advice to Management

Dont make all of the managers from one church, and rain in the departments.

I have been working at Western Carolina University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They employee a decent amount of students. Most departments will work with you as a student to schedule you around your classes.

    Cons

The buddy culture here means that if you dont go to the right church, or right social club, you have no chance of getting a full time position. Drama is high for a low pay job. I would only recommend if you never want to leave the area. IT is the worst for the buddy culture though. Also if you report anything to HR such as harassment or unfair practices, they will do nothing except send it back to your boss, dealt with that first hand.

    Advice to Management

Stop letting certain managers only hire their unqualified friends, and have more over sight over managers and their hiring practices. Hire qualified people or you will not keep up with issues. Also take HR issues seriously, reported sexual harassment and it was sent back to same manager who never handled it before.
