  5. "This company makes a habit of allowing stressful conditions to happen frequently and for far too long."

I worked at Western Convenience part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to know your customers and coworkers, small stores, good personal environment, employee grocery advance.

    Cons

No shift differential for overnights, schedules do not give proper notice, understaffed, do not start earning vacation time for a year, management will not take any action to cover or get shifts covered, breaks are not offered, time for lunch is not given, high risk of robbery and assault, standing without breaks for entire shift, high turnover rates.

    Advice to Management

Managers are salaried for the purpose of covering shifts if necessary, scheduling and staff turnover should not frequently be an issue if staff is happy and sufficient. Staff is NOT meant to take on a manager's tasks or support a manager's position, a manager is meant to provide guidance and assistance to employees, communicate needs to upper management, fill any gaps in schedule. If we wanted to be paid to do your job we would likely apply, but wages do not encourage additional efforts. Hire a medium sized staff and encourage competitive hours rather than shift avoidance and overworking employees. The company will be more efficient if employees are happy and motivated rather than afraid and stressed.

I worked at Western Convenience full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Customers
    Other Employees
Great place to learn about how a gas station works.
Good for a short term job (less than a year).

    Cons

    Corporate Drama
No Communication between corporate, DMs, and stores
    Tons of Miscommunication
    System would constantly freeze up
Bookkeepers at corporate don't know what they are doing
    Horribly run company.

    Advice to Management

Communicate better between EVERYONE at corporate. Corporate needs to communicate to stores better. DMs need to communicate to stores better. Multiple times I was told by one executive to do something one way, then 2 weeks later another executive would come in and scold me for doing it that way. Communication is key.

    Pros

Customer service is#1 if you don't have it, no need to apply.

    Cons

Corporate really needs to get their heads out of each others bums. This company would do great with better leaders!

I worked at Western Convenience full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with and the customers are a great part of the job.

    Cons

Lots to do little time. High turnover. Parking lot horrible get yelled at everyday and management will not do anything. From my previous experience here, management just wants to make money and not care for what the customer wants. They don't care as long as people are working their butts off. There are several health issues with the building but they don't want to fix it. I.E. gas leaks, pump leaks into the ground and water supply, that's why they are chained up on the diesel side.

    Advice to Management

Care about the customers....and recognize your employees for the hard work they do.

Current Employee - Cashier, Internal Auditor, Assistant Manager

    Pros

    Flexible
You learn a lot about customer service
You learn about how a corporation works
    Other Employees are usually fun

    Cons

Corporate and Managers are hardly on the same page
Some Managers are lazy - seen most stores
    Benefits
    Drama
    Pay

    Advice to Management

Try to focus on the employees more, the office is not as important as the people that run the stores
