Mental Health Specialist II

8 years experience in Social Work. Have undergraduate degree in Sports Management and Masters in Social Work. Have taken the Licensing exam 3 times and failed. Will be 31 in January and am wondering whether I should continue this career path. If I did decide on another career path I have no idea what that would be. Currently making around 60k, would be happier in the 70-80 range. Wondering if HealthCare is worth it long term.. Any suggestions?

    Pros

Fast paced; lots to learn and a strong steady organization. Upward mobility, always something to learn. Steady employment & benefits package.

    Cons

In such a large organization - it takes a bit longer to make things happen. Too many meetings for simple decisions.

    Pros

Fast pace teaches you to work quickly, variety of doctors and staff teaches you to adapt to any given situation, large patient flow teaches you to multitask in any given situation. Most training for dental assistants is all hands-on learning done through being thrown into situations.

    Cons

You're overworked and underpaid. A lot of doctors and staff are disrespectful and believe in the hierarchical system implemented with doctors and the rest of the team, and you're treated as such.

    Insurance Biller

    Oct 8, 2016 -

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Great place to get your foot in the door and gain valuable experience as an insurance biller. You are assigned several offices and our responsible for submitting claims, tracing for payments, and resubmitting or appealing claims in order to finalize and resolve. Basically, handling the entire process of an insurance claim from beginning to end utilizing various tools and applications. This is definitely a great stepping stone if you eventually want to transition into medical billing but do not have any experience. Awesome leadership team who do their best to keep morale high and the work environment enjoyable. Wonderful down to earth teammates who are always willing to help or address any questions you may have. Job is fast paced and you're always switching between different tasks daily so the work day doesn't drag and have that monotonous feeling to it but zooms quickly by. PTO, VACATION, FLEXIBLE WORK HOURS, GREAT SUPERVISORS, MANAGERS & DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR!

    Cons

For the amount of work you do and the revenue this department directly generates for the company we are definitely underpaid and that's being compared to just industry standards now if you consider the state of CA and the cost of living yeah we are at the bottom of the barrel and that's the main reason for the amount of turnover. Everyone comes in learns the industry, soaks up the valuable information and practices taught and then moves on to better paying positions being offered by other dental or medical billing companies. Executive Management team changes often. High Turnover at office level. Front Office & Back Office training needs to be revamped. Executive team need to allow lower/mid level management the ability to counter offer to keep valuable, intelligent, hardworking individuals from leaving. IT needs to listen more and be less defensive as a lot of the applications do not interface and some of the processes that have been created to fix a certain issue ends up causing much more problems case in point, the process subscriber that now causes offices to do countless recalls to correct fee schedule errors.

    Patient Care Coordinator

    Jul 6, 2016 - Patient Care Coordinator
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

You get to learn new things in a very fast paced environment. Benefits such as sick time and paid time off.

    Cons

The schedule is horrible since they are open monday- Saturday 9-7pm. Must be able to work overtime. You are not asked to do this you are forced. High turn over rate so constantly having to train someone new. Low pay. This company does not care about their employees just their business. All they care about is money money money. You are forced to take over other people's work and you are not compensated for this. They give you no formal training and have the concept of sink or swim. I would not recommend this employer unless you are trying to get experience. They state to care about patients but they really don't. No ethics whatsoever!! As soon as I find another job I'm out of here!
