    Pros

A very good place to work. The benefits are outstanding. We accrue annual leave and sick leave. You can use it any way you need as long as you ask for time off with a little advanced notice. You can accrue 240 hours of annual leave before you loose it. If you are a dedicated to your job, you will be treated with great respect among co-workers. We also get tuition remission for our dependents and our self. This is a huge benefits. I like having the health center on campus. It is easy to get an appointment, and they can help you with most things. The summer semesters are very quiet and it is nice to have the break after the fall and spring semesters. I hope to retire from WMU.

    Cons

The pay scale is not great, but most of us don't work here for the money, it is the benefits.

    Advice to Management

I am proud to say that I work for such a great institution. You don't find a place to work for like this very often.

    Pros

Great benefits package that includes dental and vision. There are some great mentors here that are willing to go the extra mile for people they see potential in.

    Cons

The university has been battling with some real budgetary issues the past 5 years or so and that has created limited opportunities for pay raises and needed staffing increases.

    Advice to Management

I've had a very satisfying experience at Western Michigan University but due to budget constraints outside of your control I am regretfully leaving.

    Pros

Flexible hours, Great boss, Challenging work, not a lot of boredom, great peers and co-workers.
All around great place to work.

    Cons

Boredom at work sometimes, usually one social loafer, bossy co-worker, having to come back to a job that was finished numerous times.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. Helping students get jobs on campus is great, it helps parents and students that have lower income.

I have been working at Western Michigan University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Accommodating to students for both work study and non-work study students. Also working on campus is convenient for classes.

    Cons

The only con I have for this employer would be that we don't get enough hours due to restrictions and end up having to find jobs other places in the community.

I worked at Western Michigan University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great resources, excellent learning-enviroment, flexible schedule, friendly co-workers. Western completely understands that most workers are students, they provide a flexiable schedule and allow you to work on homework when it is "slow." I would reccomend to any student to get a job on campus if they could, very beneficial.

    Cons

Work enviroment could get political or clicky, low pay but excellent if just looking to earn spending cash in college.

I have been working at Western Michigan University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Purpose driven (student- and community-focused), good work-life balance, efficient and dedicated co-workers

    Cons

Decentralized resources, so it takes some time to get to know the correct individuals to work with for solving larger problems that may be hindering achievement of the University's mission, vision, values, and goals.

    Advice to Management

Involve your employees in decision-making - their ideas are invaluable.
