I have been working at Western Michigan University part-time

    Pros

It is a great community and you learn a lot of communication skills working on campus.

    Cons

The office seems to be not the most conventional office. It is led by students with busy scheduals and who often make mistakes. There is a lot of training and you are always tested on campus facts.

    Advice to Management

Have a more organized office that isn't staffed with busy college students.

I worked at Western Michigan University part-time

    Pros

If you work for the right person, this can be the most rewarding experience in terms of growth and achievement

    Cons

The red tape is real here. Any problem with the school system and it's half a days work gone

I have been working at Western Michigan University (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I have worked with some very good faculty members. Also, you will only work here as long as your graduate program allows so it's only a couple years of your life.

    Cons

Graduate assistants aren't treated especially well by the university. Pay is low with no health insurance. You cannot work outside the university when you have an assistantship so plan on taking out loans. Workload depends on your department. GA union seems to be naive and powerless.

I have been working at Western Michigan University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working in an intellectually stimulating environment, benefits are pretty good including health clinic and wellness incentives

    Cons

Below market pay. There are no salary increases based on experience or merit despite the existence of a salary scale. Pay rate stays the same from the day you arrive. Across the board increases of 2% have occurred in the past. Glacial bureaucracy can be frustrating.
