I worked at Western Refining full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Compensation is good.
    Office environment is good.
    Bonus systems is generous.
    Good industry to work in.

You have to find the right position and department to be successful.

    Cons

    No work life balance.
    Autocratic style of management.
Many internal conflicts between areas that are difficult not get stuck in.
    Very poor communications from management.

    Advice to Management

Become more proactive in daily operations. Find out what is going on in the front lines. In my department communications were not made with employees. We lacked focus.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Western is only a good place to work if you have no other options and need to have an income to pay the bills

    Cons

Management has no respect for the people actually working and running the refinery. Yorktown was a great place to work, but Western has destroyed it.

    Advice to Management

Realize that the employees are your greatest asset and treat them as so.
