I worked at Western Refining full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great parent company. Good people at the Tempe office. Benefits were ok.

    Cons

Giant's operations management team is what made the experience difficult. It all starts at the top and you are lucky if you fit into the clique. If they do not like you, it doesn't matter how great of an improvement you make.

    Advice to Management

Look at your management team. I think it is a problem when even recruiters wonder why people don't stay. Isolate Giant and you'll get a much lower rating because of your management team in Tempe.

I have been working at Western Refining full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, works with scheduling, easy to advance in position. Reimbursement for school if it applies to company.

    Cons

Negative reinforcrment is highly implemented. Working under retail, is expected to do things that are out of your job description. Low salary compared to other companies with same job and experience.

    Advice to Management

Hire people to help with the maintance of stores, review your salary options for your management teams.

I have been working at Western Refining full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Western Refining has really good benefits, 401k with matching, medical, dental and vision. If yearly goals are met, they award a once a year bonus

    Cons

Their supervisors, some are from the old company giant. I do not know if this the case for all but it is mine. I do hear from most all the department of the unfairness of treatment. If your liked or not, not based on work.

    Advice to Management

take a better look at the department heads and allow for some feed back from their employees. because the employees can not go to any one if they would it just gets worst

I worked at Western Refining full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Large company that keeps growing.

    Cons

Too rapid in growth and sometimes the newly acquired stores are lost in the cracks.

    Advice to Management

Be ready to learn by making mistakes. Severe lack of support and training and company operates from a reactive position not proactive.

I worked at Western Refining full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Heath insurance is good, work/life balance is good, the bonus is good. The upper management is doing a great job running the company.

    Cons

People have been working there 10-20 years and very set in their ways. Most are rude to very hostile which makes the working environment very stressful and unpleasant. The pay is very low and the vacation/time off is not good. I would not recommend this company because of the current long term employees making it an unpleasant work environment.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of long term employees who are doing an average job. You need new blood and people who actually want to work there instead of just draw a paycheck.

    Advice to Management
