I have been working at Western Sugar Cooperative full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Start early and finish early. Several break times throughout the day. Most tools are supplied. Great experience and good pay for beginners in the welding career field.

    Cons

It can be challenging completing a fabrication project during the production season because welding is not permitted in certain areas so things have to be bolted on rather than welded.

I have been working at Western Sugar Cooperative full-time

    Pros

Decent 401k program, other benefits are okay. Lots of exposure to SAP software program and logistics and transportation in my role.

    Cons

Company tends to hire from outside rather than promote from within. Many salaried personnel work 60-80 hours per week. Very stressful environment during the campaign when sugar is produced. Low pay for the responsibility in many positions. They put you through a lot of crap and don't care.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your employees. More money and more authority to make decisions at all levels. Develop your people as vital assets instead of disposable machines.

    Pros

The hiring process was well thought out and very informative. The job itself was easy to catch onto and I enjoyed the people I worked with during harvest.

    Cons

The pay was lower than I was told it would be.

I have been working at Western Sugar Cooperative full-time

    Pros

The management team at Western Sugar is working towards improvements across the board, from cost savings to employee satisfaction. This is a highly supportive environment and all ideas are valued and welcomed in this environment of change. There has been tremendous growth to promote communication and collaboration between departments. I feel like a valued, contributing member of the team and my efforts are acknowledged on a regular basis by multiple levels of management.

    Excellent work/life balance and support.

    Cons

Not everyone has embraced the environment of change.

    Advice to Management

It would be great to see a more formal employee development program in place for exploring future career opportunities within the company. Management does a great job in promoting that growth on a personal level but knowing what skills are necessary for different positions would be beneficial.

  5. "Good company. Bad leadership before, new bad now."

    Pros

Hard working, loyal employees. Company has been around for many years.

    Cons

Horrible culture! New executive management team is arrogant, demeaning and intimidating. We thought it was bad before...it is a new bad now. Company does not value it's people. Will tell you what you want to hear and turn around and stab you in the back. Team has terminated long term, loyal employees who have always stepped up to get the job done, and told others lies about why. Everyone wonders, who will be let go next and when?

    Advice to Management

You wouldn't LISTEN to any advice. You ask for advice and when given you turn around and use it against people, set employees up to fail.
