I have been working at Westerra Credit Union full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very collaborative environment, including front-line employees in deciding how to get things done! Exexutive leadership is approachable and provides the support needed to reach goals. It's been fun to be innovative and be encouraged to bring new ideas to the table.

    Cons

There has been a lot of change in a relatively short period of time which has been hard for some. Work life balance is a little off right now with the volume of work and projects.

I have been working at Westerra Credit Union full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Leadership team has vision and is aligned. Leadership is transparent and approachable. Changing significantly and open to input so you can have influence and impact the future of the company. Financially stable (good feeling during COVID).

    Cons

The company has been around for 85 years so there are a lot of old ways of doing things. However, the company has a huge process initiative under-way to uncover and iterate on nearly everything. It's like working for an 85-year old start-up. There's a lot of chaos and so many areas of opportunity. If you're like me, that's exhilarating. If you need tons of structure, this might not be the place for you. There are a lot of regulations that come with working for any financial institution.

I worked at Westerra Credit Union full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    none, a completely corrupt organization

    Cons

This company was founded on fraud. A Sr. Executive from DPS credit union leave his job to become CEO of Safeway RMCU then manipulates a merger between the 2 for a Million dollar payout. Ironically they fired him before he got paid. They then found cause to fire most of the Safeway CU employees and that is how DPS Credit Union became Westerra. Now they have had some turnover in leadership but the corruption is still there. STAY AWAY. I would give ZERO stars if I could

I have been working at Westerra Credit Union full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Having been at Westerra for many years, I have seen many leaders. This newest batch is by far the most visionary and personable I've seen anywhere. The new executive team is changing the culture into a place I want to come to every day. The CEO makes an effort to know your name and back story, stopping you in the halls to say hi when he runs into you. The people that have been hired share the vision of an amazing member experience and know the steps needed to get there. Previous leadership only cared about their paychecks, titles and the bottom line, but now I feel free to express my opinions without recourse or retaliation. People aren't just kept around because of tenure, they are expected to be productive team players. New push for process mapping shows that the executive team is willing to put their money where their mouth is. All around, an absolutely amazing company to grow with!

    Cons

The company is still too top heavy. I know that it takes time to fix structural issues, but look at people with titles that maybe don't deserve them. When the previous culture was to promote just because of tenure or because your boss liked you, it definitely caused a lot of management roles with no direct reports. We also had a lot of shuffling of poor performers because of lack of accountability. Look at removing titles that don't make sense. Hold people accountable for poor performance.

I have been working at Westerra Credit Union full-time

    Pros

I like where the company is headed to. Our new Senior Leadership Team has been implementing many positive changes that have contributed to a healthier, more transparent organization. The employees are very respectful and the members give the credit union great reviews for the service they receive. I truly enjoy working here and partnering with my team on a daily basis.

    Cons

I cannot think of any cons at this time. I have been working at Westerra for over 4 years and I feel I have grown as a professional and as a person. I have truly learned many invaluable things.

I have been working at Westerra Credit Union full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Use to be a great place to work...with authentic leadership & and a people first culture.

    Cons

This is no longer Westerra Credit Union...it is Elevations Credit Union in Cherry Creek. New CEO and his leadership team from Elevations has completely disregarded Westerra. This leadership team is arrogant and not genuine. Constantly bad mouthing previous employees, changing anything and everything just for the sake of change because it was not "their idea". If I wanted to work at Elevations, I would. The hierarchy has never been worse than right now. Who else will lose their job so another Chief, SVP, VP can be brought in ?

I have been working at Westerra Credit Union

    Pros

    The benefits, PTO and Holidays

    Cons

Branch directors do not care. They are never available unless you are one of their favorites. Managers are worked to exhaustion having to do their job and ours due to being short staffed. Pay is way too low. There is zero work life balance in branches but back office can leave at 5:00 with no Saturday’s. If you have kids in day care this is not a job for you due to the work hours (open until 6:00). There is always a fear of being fired. Not just at the employee level but managers and above. People who have given their life to Westerra. Years of service makes no difference. Reputation makes no difference. It’s a Sales Sales Sales environment. They try to sugar coat it with adding value but you are written up for not hitting you goals. Again. Fear of loosing your job.
