I worked at Westinghouse full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Technically Competent individuals in the ranks are a pleasure to learn and work with.

    Cons

It seems everything related to nuclear construction is sub-par quality and results; Modules, delivery, documentation, schedule, costs. The owners viewpoint of WEC is destroyed. It's the end of new nuclear construction in America for a long time if the Vogtle project gets cancelled.

    Advice to Management

I won't pretend to have the answers to this massive problem as others have posted. I'm just sorry to see Westinghouse fail in this area. Fortunately, they other core services which are excelling and doing much better than nuclear construction and design.

I have been working at Westinghouse full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Your coworkers
    -Checks still clear, good pay
    -3 weeks vacation to start

    Cons

    -Terrible mismanagement
-Too much red tape and time wasted with mountains of regulations
-No opportunities for growth or development
-Failing industry that does not look to improve any time soon

    Advice to Management

Clean house and remove the mountain of mid-level managers that contribute no value to the company. Show some respect and appreciation for your employees who are paying your ridiculously high salaries and continue to make this company function. Do away with "Casual Overtime" and actually compensate people fairly.

I have been working at Westinghouse full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great pay. Good employees. Nice facility. Flexible work hours and a real focus on work/life balance (e.g. no expectation to work 50+ hour weeks normally).

    Cons

Very slow to change. Poor management all the way down the chain. Below average benefits, including frozen pension. Lack of opportunity for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Empower your employees to play to their strengths. Hire when necessary. Pay more attention to small changes that could make big improvements for low-morale employees.
