I worked at Weston Solutions full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Always busy and never at a loss for work. You'll get OK experience but it seems they're more interested in you being a cog and grinding out (Not really a pro but I needed a 20 word minimum in this section).

    Cons

Work hard but you have to pound your own fist to get the work you're doing noticed by management. Mediocre pay for the effort. Once you're leaving, then they see what you've accomplished for them and they make the effort to you to keep you. Not a great way to have your worth appreciated after several years at the company. Thought being loyal would have been a plus but not here unfortunately.

I have been working at Weston Solutions (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Many different work/project opportunities are available. If you get in on the right contract/project there are great opportunities for training, etc. Opportunity to travel, work from home and or other offices. Great talent pool and technical experts in many varied fields. Large, long term contracts for stable work flow. Outlook has greatly improved from a recent restructuring, and begining to hire vacancies.

    Cons

Benefits eroded away every year, while premiums rise, health insurance is now very costly. Depending on contrat or location, there is very little guidance/direction for new hires, basically sink or swim. Require you to donate first 4 hours of overtime (some projects/contracts do not require this), or all overtime untill 44 billable hours met per week. Frequently projects assignments are last minute, high-priority. Many senior & experienced technical personnel leaving the company.

    Advice to Management

Communication from senior management to the regular working staff is very little to zero. This is disturbing considering we are going through a transition/restructuring, and many employees wondered if they would be laid off just a year or two ago. Senior management should work on their communication to the low men on the totem .

I have been working at Weston Solutions (More than a year)

    Pros

I did fill this out already, but I will do it again. There are lots of large and interesting projects and opportunities. They have a big federal government portfolio, which means they have a stable source of revenue when the private sector markets go through ups and downs. There are offices throughout the U.S., so relocation is an option. I love the people here.

    Cons

I would like to learn more about some of our other services and get involved in groundwater modeling, which we do, but instead I have been cast to the role of writing reports and doing data quality reviews, so I am not available to learn anything new. We had some turnover and a lot of people left and were not replaced.

    Advice to Management

Let people choose from the huge pool of projects we have and at least get on a waiting list to learn new skills and services. I am a great technical report writer, but that is not how I want to spend my entire day every day. Have someone stewarding my career path and goals that also has access to new contracts and skills and stuff so people can work on becoming more well-rounded rather than just doing a few types of tasks. I have had maybe one performance review. I lost my supervisor more than a year ago and was never reassigned.

I worked at Weston Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is plenty of opportunity for field work and to learn skills within your title/rank. In general the coworkers are great people who work hard and like to have a great time. There usually seemed to be a very friendly atmosphere around the office.

    Cons

Corporate structure is handicapping the regional and local offices. Management (at all levels) carries a sense of entitlement. Not much support for moving up in your career as that would incur more cost for the company. Managers expect people to stay at their hire level indefinitely.

    Advice to Management

Let people grow. De-value your role in the organization and recognize that the people that typically support/carry companies like this through tougher times are the ones who execute billable work on a regular basis.
