I have been working at Westpac Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Depending on the area you work in, there's lots of opportunity to get exposure to a range of products and functions across the bank. Reasonable work life balance. The maternity and working arrangements are very generous if you're a younger woman starting a family.

    Cons

As a few other people have mentioned, it can be ridiculously bureaucratic. Decision making is a long, protracted process, which seems to be an attempt at avoiding responsibility by mutualising everything. Information hoarding and "managing up" are common.

    Advice to Management

Give staff their autonomy, but make them accountable for their decisions.

    Pros

People orientated culture. Competitive entry salaries. Long-term employees provide base level of experience and knowledge sharing.

    Cons

Poor technology and infrastructure. Poor pay increases once already established in the bank. Can be quite silo'd.
