    Pros

The team I worked with are fantastic people.
The performance management side of things is fair.

    Cons

Lack of direction - strategy and vision are lacking.
Management do not empower staff to actually do the job.
Do not seem to have the budget to actually make a difference. Difficult to make progress on an idea without running into various roadblocks. Stifles innovation

    Advice to Management

Trust your people. Give them the tools and technology to do the job.

I worked at Westpac New Zealand full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pays well, people I worked closely with were good, we worked well together.

    Cons

Banks pretend to like their customers but they are really in it for the money, so it's hard not to get a bit cynical. Typical corporate behaviour, risk averse, lawyers get involved late and get in the way of good design. Restructure when everything gets settled. Managers are a revolving door, moving on before their decisions crash.

    Advice to Management

Trust your staff more and build for your customers, not yourselves. Don't kid yourself you are doing it for your customers.

I worked at Westpac New Zealand full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Commitment to ongoing development
    Opp. to lead projects
Inspiring Senior Leadership who are open and engaging with employees
Smaller company makes it easier to make your mark

    Cons

Good work is rewarded with more work
limited advancement opp. with managers holding tight to their role
    Limited pay rises/bonus
Review structure is unclear with no gtee of increase of pay even with great employee feedback
Culture is more do what I say not what I do in the middle mgr ranks.
Flatter structure that means less opp. to promote internal employees, more likely to higher for new roles externally than promote internally.

    Advice to Management

Work out what your priorities are and align your Annual review to staff that meet those priorities. Seek not just to reward the top 1% when its the high achievers that are taking on new projects to develop.
