I worked at Westpac New Zealand full-time

    Pros

The team I worked with are fantastic people.
The performance management side of things is fair.

    Cons

Lack of direction - strategy and vision are lacking.
Management do not empower staff to actually do the job.
Do not seem to have the budget to actually make a difference. Difficult to make progress on an idea without running into various roadblocks. Stifles innovation

    Advice to Management

Trust your people. Give them the tools and technology to do the job.

I worked at Westpac New Zealand full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    1. Good place to acquire skills and experience before proceeding to work for other better employers.
    2. Always accommodating to young staff.

    Cons

    1. Bad people management.
    2. Bullying rife and condoned by management.
    3. Always promote the wrong people for the job.

    Advice to Management

Promoted staff do not have the right skills for the job. Instead promotion is based on who the higher management fancies. I have encountered the following situations: 1. A staff who went through performance management twice was promoted. 2. Another staff who was promoted (and I was passed over for the promotion) had to be managed out within 2 months. The management should exercise better judgment when it comes to retaining and promoting staff. 3. A manager with bad management skills was transferred to another role with reporting staff.

I have been working at Westpac New Zealand full-time

    Pros

Westpac NZ is an excellent employer with a great (and getting better) culture. There is ample opportunity for career advancement for an ambitious employee.

    Cons

Westpac NZ, like any large bank, is risk adverse and therefore has a lot of risk and compliance requirements and processes which can be challenging to navigate.

I worked at Westpac New Zealand full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Loved the job and people I worked with.

    Cons

Department was run by female sociopaths that made my life hell, I had to resign with no job to go to as couldn't take it anymore, I seeked counselling for my trauma. At least I performed but got told wasn't good enough etc. Believe in karma hope they get what they deserve in life and get fired.

    Advice to Management

Be good to staff who work hard and leave them alone to do their job.

    Cons

Poor investment in staff, short term thinking, sometimes irresponsible or immoral business behaviour.
