    I worked at Westtown School

    Pros

Strong school mission, bright students, and scenic environment. Friendly faculty and awesome staff. The students are sharp and eager to learn.

    Cons

The community is very small and tight-knit. This affords many opportunities to cultivate real growth among faculty and students. Be sure to identify and optimize these opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Optimize the strengths and interests of all faculty members. There are so many talented educators on staff and the students enjoy instruction driven by passion.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Westtown School full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Some very nice kids, good professional development opportunities if you know how to go after them, lots of freedom from supervision

    Cons

Low staff and faculty morale, bitterness, layoff fears, weak administration, focus on money and admissions numbers and little on academics. Faculty expected to recruit, and when numbers are down, they are blamed. Academics are weak. Grade inflation and simplified curriculum to keep students and parents happy. Warm and fuzzy manner hides big problems.

    Advice to Management

The Board should stop avoiding staff and faculty issues and seriously look beyond what the admin council tells them. Administrators are very weak, and some are an embarrassment. If the faculty/staff layoffs continue and you care even a little, you should start paying into unemployment.
