I have been working at Weyerhaeuser full-time

    Pros

Many good people (may have to search to find them), some decent management (newer) who want to steer the company in a more efficient direction. The desire for positive change is present.

    Cons

Entrenched employees are very resistant to any sort of change/improvement to processes. 5 separate IT departments interrupt efficiency. Instead of acting like an IT department in a Fortune 500 company, the approach is much more mom and pop.

    Advice to Management

To gain efficiency and cost savings, IT needs to be streamlined and run by knowledgeable management with the authority to make decisions.

I have been working at Weyerhaeuser full-time

    Pros

Has been a good company to work for. Do not like the direction the CEO is taking this company to. Will probably not be around in 20 years.

    Cons

Use to be a balance of a people and business company. As with most companies it is now all about the large share holders.

I have been working at Weyerhaeuser full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Federal Way location, have spent most of my career at Weyerhaeuser. Used to be a great company that valued long time employees.

    Cons

Moving HQ to Seattle is the worst plan ever. "To attract up and coming talent" they say. They treat long time employees like crap now and are pushing us out the door. Shame on management!

    Advice to Management

You weren't always management, take a step back and learn how to value employees again.

    Pros

    Flexible work hours
    Work from home option
    Great campus

    Cons

    Inadequate/untrained managers
Looking for "new young talent" with no respect for "seasoned employees"

    Pros

I have been working at Weyerhaeuser as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's an easy drive from Raleigh, like an hour, hour and 15 minutes. New Bern has the sound to explore. It's a fluff pulp operation, so if you get to work on the paper machine that's unique.

    Cons

The projects I received were boring. I never got to see the paper machine, er, maybe once. I don't feel like I was given much leadership with my projects; mainly testing. I learned some Italian while I was waiting for water to filter because I had no other projects to do in the meantime.

    Advice to Management

They could do a better job of outlining learning objectives for their interns, and working with them to find meaningful projects for them. Counting bugs on a bug zapper should not have to be included in an intern's final presentation...that's ridiculous.

I worked at Weyerhaeuser (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very fair compensation, medical, dental, 401k benefits. Probably leads most of the industry

    Cons

Constant organizational and leadership changes in the last few years have caused significant decline in morale. Focus is on cost reduction at any cost to please the shareholder

    Advice to Management

Where you are located does not attract excellent talent. It's how people are treated and an enjoyable place to work. Try using the "culture of caring" for safety in how you treat employees and that will drive higher productivity and profits delivering the results that shareholders want.

    Pros

Driven by larger values and dedicated to the science and sustainability of forestry. Flow to work mentality and more collegial than other places I've worked.

    Cons

Since converting to REIT, has given up some of its towering strengths, which is plantation forestry in international markets. Also, has gutted its R&D staff in manufacturing.

    Advice to Management

Re-invest in technologies and businesses other than forestry and wood products. Broaden raw material supply strategy beyond SYP.
