I have been working at Weyerhaeuser full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Federal Way location, have spent most of my career at Weyerhaeuser. Used to be a great company that valued long time employees.

    Cons

Moving HQ to Seattle is the worst plan ever. "To attract up and coming talent" they say. They treat long time employees like crap now and are pushing us out the door. Shame on management!

    Advice to Management

You weren't always management, take a step back and learn how to value employees again.

I have been working at Weyerhaeuser full-time

    Pros

Great pay, hours, and time off. Everyone is willing to help out with tasks and teach you new things. 401k is 50 cents to every dollar up to 6%. 2 weeks paid vacation for the first 2 years then goes up every few after that. Cant speak much for the other benefits as I do not use them. I get a lot of good experience here as far as maintenance goes.

    Cons

Safety is beaten into your head big time. Its an over kill some days. I get that safety is something to take seriously and a lot of folks do, but they do not have to go to the extreme like they do. I guess that's why they are one of the safest companies to work for. Also, cant borrow against your 401k with the company matching. Also, I hired in as an electrician and hardly touch wires. Its mostly millwright work, like a 90/10 percent. the vision is to make everyone a multicraft.

    Advice to Management

Keep treating the lower level guys good and you will have good quality guys sticking around for a while.

    Cons

Leadership can be a struggle to deal with, sometimes processes in place for managing change can be time inefficient

I worked at Weyerhaeuser full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There really isn't anything positive left in the distribution side of the business. They still however are a powerhouse in the timberlands and manufacturing.

    Cons

Management is completely incompetent, and has no real understanding of how to take product to market. They are also unaware of how little market share they really have, and they still try to make decisions like they are market leaders that can drive change. Customers and employees alike have a lot of unanswered questions on the future plans for the some businesses under the Weyco umbrella, and it makes it very difficult to put any kind of program business in place. Replenishment is trying to be done from a far with little or no understanding of local markets. In a nutshell, it's a big mess.

    Advice to Management

Find talent that actually understands to business you are in. Have the fortitude to stick with a well thought out plan, and don't change your business strategies every few months. New initiatives take time to get working as intended.

    Pros

Good Company to work for, you are always busy. A lot of very nice people in the company. Enjoy my job working outside and inside.

    Cons

Not a whole lot of upward movement in my area, job progression is at a stand still. A lot of you haven't been here long enough to get that promotion even though I have showed the competency. Not a whole lot of onboard training to new employees.

    Advice to Management

If you are going to train make sure you are teaching your employees the correct way to do things. If someone shows the competency to be moved to the next level then move them to that level. Instead of taking advantage of your employees.
