I have been working at Wheelabrator full-time

    Pros

Great ability to advance Career. Very competitive pay. Great place to learn important skills.

    Cons

Long hours. Companies new direction, doesn't provide much assistance to the plants i.e. HR, accounting, etc.

    Advice to Management

Consider providing more finical support to the plants, allowing the management team more time to do what they are good at i.e. operate or maintain the faculty, and less time filling out spread sheets.

I have been working at Wheelabrator full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good Pay, Good Dental, ummm.... free turkey around thanksgiving

    Cons

Bad benefits, you basically live there, work is more labor intensive because they refuse to fix down equipment.

    Advice to Management

Don't assume that everytime something goes wrong it's operator error. Preventative Maintenance goes a long way.

I have been working at Wheelabrator full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of overtime, double time on holidays ,matching 401k, plenty of room for advancement and good people to work with. I made lifelong friends and would consider some brothers.

    Cons

Swing shift. A week of nights and then a week of days. Standard 12 hour shift which is a lot for the typical 9-5er to get accustomed to. If there's issues in the plant, you're staying no later than 16 hours which is good money until you have to be back the next day for another 12, kinda sucks .Very physical work depending on your job title and condition of the equipment at the time. If you're short handed, the slack is expected to be picked up but you're compensated for it. Wheelabrator plants operate 24/7 no matter if it's snowing raining freezing etc. you're paid well to endure it.

    Advice to Management

No advice. You guys do what you can despite our budget and are very helpful and motivating. We're all a big family here.

    Pros

If you like to be at work all the time, this is the place for you. You can easily rack up 4-600 hours of overtime/year whether you want it or not. Pay is good, but you WILL earn every cent, unless you are incompetent (don't worry, someone else will do your work for you).

    Cons

Basically everything. The work environment is FILTHY. There is no accountability for anything (This is considered a Pro for 75% of the employees here). Very possible this company will not exist in 5-10 years.

    Advice to Management

Get some management personnel that aren't brain dead.
