    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Whelen Engineering Company full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This company is growing, pays well, and accommodates a diverse staff. Good for an employee who enjoys putting thing together.

    Cons

Generally requires employees to start through a temp agency and may take more than 12 months to be offered full time permanent employment. The organization is very flat so there is little room for advancement. Very few paid days off.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. While this job is not perfect it beats anything else this community offers. While I want to perform well to earn the bonus there is little to sustain my interest in staying with the company if something better was to come along.

I worked at Whelen Engineering Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Whelen is one of the better companies to work for in the area, especially if you want part time work as a college student.

    Cons

The company is very good ole boy style management and they will promote family and those with seniority, over the more talented.

    Advice to Management

    Whelen needs fresh blood.

I worked at Whelen Engineering Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

No pro except that each year you get a holiday bonus on top of your mediocre salary/hourly wage which makes it seem like you make "a lot" of money here ( "a lot" being under 40 to 50k a year if you're in production downstairs in the pits). Oh and if you're one of the few to put in the time and get promoted to corporate (located upstairs), the rules are slightly different.

    Cons

I could be here all day writing this. just the basics
Management hates themselves and basically considers you a number rather than a person.
No value no matter if you put in 2 months or 30 years
    turnover is ten fold
toxic fumes from burning lead, poor ventilation.
Everyone is miserable, angry, talks poorly about company 8 straight hrs a day
Work bells!! bells go off to let you know when break/lunch starts/ends! bells go off all day!
    Negative environment. employee confrontations occur.
    Termination for one time offenses.
Everyone leaves at the same time and there's traffic getting out of the parking lot.

    Pros

Welcoming environment. They teach you well and everyone is friendly. I learned a lot to during my internship. Pay was also fair.

    Cons

Not always flexible with time but they made it work. They seem to set you up and forget about you, doesn't seem like much room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

I think the management does a good job, they need to remember their employees though. It seems that there can be a disconnect between them.
