    Pros

    - The people at Whirlpool are its strength. Kind, engaged and helpful.
    - Leadership believes in assigning responsibilities irrespective of employee age or experience at company, which is a good and bad thing. Good because your age does not limit you from taking on responsibilities. Bad because assigning responsibilities to a new employee is not helpful if there is no mentoring to back it up.

    Cons

    - Leadership does not have clear direction
    - Employee rating system drives unhealthy competition between employees, causing employees to be invested in making sure only their rating at the end of the year is good.
    - Marketing gets to make all the decisions, which means an employee often has no idea what his/her end-goal on a project is.
    - No work/life balance, unless the employee makes a conscious effort to maintain one, in which case, his/her employee rating suffers. Its a vicious cycle.

    Advice to Management

    - Invest in better people leaders and a good mentoring system
    - Get rid of your employee rating system
    - Think outside the box and do not just follow marketing's advice blindly.

I have been working at Whirlpool Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Highly diverse, some people are trying, offer jobs with good pay, good benefits, weekends off. Looks out for family and friends.

    Cons

Small-town politics in a large company, this company use to only hire family and friends. Now we use a temp service to hire operators from everywhere and anywhere only requirement is you need a high school diploma, very high turnover. Favoritism towards seniority, and friends with a total disregard to talent, leadership skills, and abilities when it comes to hiring leaders . Leaders are more of a manager than a leader, lacking soft skills.

    Advice to Management

Really need to clean house of people who don't want to change, hire people who want to be leaders . Higher for leadership qualities and not for seniority and friendship. Communicate better between lines to form plant wide best practices learn from each other don't compete with each other we have enough competitors out there we don't need internal conflict. work as a team, reward good work, team work, good behaviors and praise people in public. Make sure your operators know what you expect of them and remind them everyday. let's build leaders thru mentoring programs and holding leadership accountable for their actions by praising leaders for developing and mentoring good up-and-coming leaders.

    Advice to Management

Be more honest and forward with employees.

I have been working at Whirlpool Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good internal movement possibilities. Challenging targets. Trainings are very value add like the 6-sigma program.

    Cons

Extremely political environment. Old way to do projects still active. Not adapting to product and market evolution due to mindset, manufacturing and internal competition. Engineering is where the stress is applied in the system. Low retention rate for product development engineers.

    Advice to Management

You must follow what the leadership values say. Forget your personal agenda. Your legacy will be bad.

    Large company with many resources.

    Advice to Management

Need better system for fairly rating and rewarding employees.

I worked at Whirlpool Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The work is not hard but does keep you busy. The pay is good and the town has a low crime rate and good schools.

    Cons

Became more political and divided each year. More processes were added to the product development cycle and more departments. All this contributed to a lack of teamwork and confusion. Not a good place to work if you want to accomplish something each day.

The company succeeds based off the work of a few but the majority of the white collar workers just push paper and delegate.

    Pros

Great community to raise a family. If you have the drive, you have the ability to do great things to influence your customer base.

    Cons

I understand we are manufacturing company, and operating profit is much lower than other industries, but quality should trump cost.

    Advice to Management

You need to train individuals who have never managed people before promoting them. Great individual contributors does not equal great managers.

    Cons

    Zero- work life balance
    Women paid less than peers
    poor location- in segregated town
    Low wages for sales
    No questions asked corporate culture
Layoffs seem to happen every three years
No career advancement if in dual income family

Top talent leaves for a reason, understand and correct . If you are a TOP company for creating leaders why is innovation and morale so low?
