I worked at Whitbread full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good progression when the right general manager is in place Good company discounts Good holiday allowance Meet some great people through conferences/ going to other sites

    Cons

Felt pushed out for being female manager Unclear site targets that change so often it’s hard to keep up with Awful work life balance Being told in end of year review what you’ve need to be doing rather than supporting throughout the year- telling team what they should’ve/ could’ve done in advance to achieve results- cuts bonuses. General manager only looks out for himself and his close circle.

I worked at Whitbread full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    None really don't even bother

    Cons

Worked for Whitbread for nearly 5 years. As Deputy manager i was doing General Managers job, 55-60+ hours a week and been treated really badly. Manager was a bully and could really get away with a murder. Only 4 griviences raised by different employees but that was swept under the carpet.... regional managers dont care, just want to see numbers. No consideration for personal life getting you work illegal hours

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. It sounds like your issues may have been better dealt with locally rather than on a forum like Glassdoor. We take our teams welfare very seriously and have numerous channels available for them to raise any issues, with their Line Manager in the first instance but if this isn't appropriate there is a process they can follow. We also partner with Hospitality Action who offer an independent, and totally confidential, service available to all our employee's 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. They can be contacted on 0808 802 2111.

I have been working at Whitbread full-time

    Pros

Get to work with some great colleagues

    Cons

Area management are a complete joke. Don't help struggling sites with recruitment just like to play the blame game when netrec down due to staff shortage. North East region worst to work for! Area management always in holiday

I have been working at Whitbread full-time for more than a year

    Pros

great approach to customers and staff, good discounts and benefits, opportunities to move across the country with the company. great ideas and new systems put in place to improve service.

    Cons

very high pressure to deliver targets with too short time scales. too many discounts and offers sent to customers, never enough budget for repairs and maintenance, working with broken equipment is the standard, focus on people seams to be fading as focus on profit rises. too old systems like micros that needs updating as soon as possible but company is not willing to invest money in to it. Stop giving out free money to customers because they complained as seams that customers are finding any stupid reason just to get free money out of the company. stop looking at trip adviser as this is genuine complaint website. people in general like to complaint just to get free money and with whitbread restaurants seams to be a pattern "lets go to brewers fayre or beefeater, as we will get free food

I worked at Whitbread full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Potential to progress quickly if you are willing to put up with their TERRIBLE marketing strategies and lack of thought with everything they do.

    Cons

If you work in Head Office it's a great job,..If you work in a restaurant or hotel, it is truly going to take your life away. There is a complete expectation for you to give everything to get nothing. I was once even offered a promotion with no pay rise at all, and the excuse was "It's for your development". More for less. I cannot begin to explain the atrocious lack of actual management at higher level. All they do is hide behind words that are meaningless. The policies and targets that are set clearly come from people that have never worked on a floor level. Having worked my way up from the bottom, in 3 years working for Whitbread, I have seen 14 managers get dismiised. This is all coming from someone that has worked in a restaurant, I have truly been astonished with the incompetance of almost all of the managers (Area Manager and above) over my time there.
