I have been working at Whitbread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good elementary development, encouraging staff and motivational individuals, good company benefits and range of roles and skills to be trained in

    Cons

often shift work, inflexible working and holiday entitlement, low pay, from one extreme to the next between being underemployed and overly worked for the salary paid.

    Advice to Management

show the employees you care by fighting for them in plain sight, maintain transparency and continue to show care they way you have been

I have been working at Whitbread full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great brands to be proud of. Great people who are dedicated and committed to the brands. An organisation that will be there for the long haul.

    Cons

In the current challenging environment, there is a big restructure and drive towards cost efficiency, they need to make sure that they do not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Very poor systems but we hear that investment is on its way. There is no fun at work at the moment, hopefully that will recover in the next couple of months.

    Advice to Management

Think about the internal customer even though we only ever talk about the external customer

    Pros

There is a really nice work life balance here, and the workforce is diverse with a lot more females in the tech dept than I've seen elsewhere.

    Cons

Can't say I have any gripes

    Advice to Management

    Fruit everyday!

    Pros

Dynamic, innovative teams. Really passionate teams and flexible working. Good bonus scheme and free coffee. Good career development. Overall a great company to work for

    Cons

Really have enjoyed working at Whitbread. Overall a good company to work for. There is office politics but I think you can get that everywhere.

I have been working at Whitbread part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people i work with and our in house management team are great.

    Cons

Head Office don't seem to know how to do things. The more we do the more they want. You just can't please them. Every time we beat their targets they want more. What do we get in return - not a lot. More targets, cut hours, serve more people, make even more profits to pay their increasing salaries. I think all senior managers should come and work on the floor for a week and see how much they can do! I think they have forgotten what its like in the real world! How can we keep hitting targets when you keep giving food away with an endless supply of money off vouchers etc etc. Most of the people who come in with vouchers are only there because of a cheap meal. Voucher should be used sparingly not all year round.

    Advice to Management

As for on line training - if the on line system worked better I probably wouldn't be having this rant!! But am sitting at my home computer, wasting my time and paying for internet use for you and I can even get the training videos that I need to watch to load. Something not right somewhere. This is not the first time the system hasn't worked. So Houses get penalised because we don't get the training done "like yesterday" for two reasons. The system doesn't work and you leave it till the last minuted to inform us that new menu training needs to be done like yesterday. Obviously a new menu must come as a surprise to whoever is in charge because its not like we have new menus every March and September is it???!!!!!

I have been working at Whitbread full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good remuneration and benefits - though bonus halved from 2015 to 2016. Car allowance is good. Free on site parking, staff restaurant and Costa outlet.

    Cons

Immature Function and senior leadership. Huge Change and uncertainty coupled with large amounts of pressure to perform. Huge churn of staff with high contractor and supplier presence. Awkwardly located with traffic issues at peak time. May have parking issues. No shops within walking distance. No suppliers allowed on site Mon & Tue.

    Advice to Management

Change the CIO. Unpopular and feared - non structured, reactive, inapproptiately aggressive and gets stuck in the details too much. Blocker to progress. Does not show or know how to lead.
