    Pros

Friendly co-workers, Management truly cares about you as a person, Great benefits and give-aways. Executive management are very future focused to make sure the company is around for the long term.

    Cons

The business is seasonal so many employees are laid off at certain periods of the year. Pay for seasonal employees is low (although average for the industry).

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. I appreciate feeling valued. The way you include many minds in change is important and helps us work better and smarter.

I worked at White Flower Farm full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lovely gardens around you if you work in the Morris Location.
    Many very nice colleagues.

    Cons

Not a lot of chance for advancement. Management was very poor, inexperienced and vengeful.

    Advice to Management

Make sure managers have management training.

    Advice to Management

    Streamline and integrate

I worked at White Flower Farm full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice greenhouses and product, most equipment is operational, most co-workers were great to work with. Friendly and there to help out.

    Cons

Poor pay, not a living wage at all. No room for raises or employee advancement. This really is a 'dead end job'. Seasonal cut backs and lay offs. Started cutting positions, but growing operations.. i.e. more work and less help. Poor communication between departments. Both HR directors that were then when I worked, did a poor job of helping with employee needs or questions. Not many holidays off, none of them are paid. Benefits were very meager for full-time employees. Seasonal employees were treated as very dispensable assets. Over-all, a very poor working environment at both locations.

    Advice to Management

Develop better inter-office communication, create a more inviting work environment for employees. Offer incentives for long-term employment or returning employees. HR and Management is a joke here, they do not seem to understand what is actually taking place with the employees and their work. Better manager training...

I worked at White Flower Farm full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of other horticulture-immersed people around. If you love plants, you'll fit in. Entry level and mid level staffers are generally pleasant co-workers.

    Cons

Long hours, very limited resources and unreasonable expectations make this an exhausting, frustrating place to work. Selling live (perishable) plants isn't all that profitable and before choosing to work for a company in this industry, give it some thought. Be realistic about what's possible.

Benefits are thin. Advancement options are limited. Industry is consolidating and declining.

    Advice to Management

Give staff the resources needed to do the job.

I worked at White Flower Farm full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Beautiful flowers, great location, beautiful farm

    Cons

Terrible pay, no room for advancement, no pay raises and poor benefits. Leadership micromanages and not open to new ideas. Employees not supported. Very little growth in the company. Company culture is more of a dictatorship. Extremely stifling atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

Revamp the culture, support employee efforts. Increase pay and benefits to a living standard.

I have been working at White Flower Farm full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The product is lovely, the location in Litchfield beautiful.

    Cons

Low pay, terrible working conditions, ruled by fear and intimidation. No paid holidays, no mentoring or helping employees grow. No empathy for anyone who has an illness or sick child, they will and have cut women's pay when they had a need to take time off to care for a sick relative or child and could not afford to take the FMLA and lose their insurance.

    Advice to Management

Definite need for training managers to manage people, not just rule with abuse and intimidation. Need for sensitivity training!

I have been working at White Flower Farm full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

White Flower Farm is committed to its tradition of providing high quality products and services that support and inspire gardeners in their activities and lifestyles.

Management includes all levels of staff in future business planning & strategies. Everyone's opinion is valued & important. All staff are friendly and it's a true family enviornment.

    Cons

The nature of the business is seasonal. Entry level employees often have 2 layoffs per year. The company has two locations, one in Torrington & one in Morris - it would be great to have everyone together on the beautiful Morris property.

    Advice to Management

Continue with the path you are on!

I have been working at White Flower Farm full-time

    Pros

If gardening is your passion, there is no better place to be than White Flower Farm. The folks here live and breathe plants, and all things horticulture, are receptive to new ideas, and take their customers (and their customers' gardens) very seriously. Plus, everyone is very friendly and generous when you need a hand.

    Cons

You won't be bored here! Its a fast-paced environment, and if you have downtime, its very likely someone else will ask for your help. The company is focused on stable, long-term employment rather than short term gains, and the pay reflects that.

    Advice to Management

Keep the customers happy and everything else will follow from that.
