I have been working at White Hat Mgmt full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

This is a place where you are constantly challenged and supported. You have the ability to learn and do as much as you desire. They believe in developing their team and everyone can learn! The new management team is Awesome and the best I have ever seen.

    Cons

The state makes it more difficult than it needs to be.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing we love working here!

I worked at White Hat Mgmt full-time

    Pros

Regardless of a students' background (socioeconomic, ethnic, learning level, etc.), all students have a great opportunity to benefit from differentiated instruction. Very disheartened by a previous reviewer's comments about "nice place to work as long as you like urban adults (not kids)" How sad someone who had access to any education system could make such a disgusting comment. Education is there to benefit ALL... people regardless of what kind of community they live in. With that said the students were an absolute pleasure to work with, the majority of teachers went above and beyond for their students, and most parents worked with and not against the teachers.

    Cons

I recommended a highly qualified teacher who lives in Columbus to apply with White Hat, but the application said they only hire staff who live in or near Akron. They used to hire teachers/staff statewide, but now only hire instructional staff who live in the Akron area according to their website. Since instruction is remote and testing is local this seems rather unbalanced. Tax dollars are collected throughout the... state and used for students who live throughout the state. Hiring teachers and staff who only live in or near Akron but who teach students throughout the entire state is highly questionable.

    Advice to Management

Hiring process is unfair and definitely questionable since since school is funded by state and not local tax funds. Hiring teachers who only live in or near Akron, although the instruction is 100% online/remote and testing is local, is very questionable since school receives state taxes funds.

I worked at White Hat Mgmt full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The kids, very little grading, decent pay. The kids are usually troubled and usually hate school coming in. It is drop out recovery using an online curriculum that is very boring.

    Cons

Most teachers make $30-$40k, no raises in the last 3 years, company run poorly, kids are dollar signs and even the trouble makers are welcome back no matter what

    Advice to Management

Walk your talk. You say teachers and students are your priority, but both are dismissed and ignored

    Cons

Having a soul is a liability not an asset.

    Advice to Management

Money over children. Profit over mission.

I have been working at White Hat Mgmt full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You get to really have an impact on students who are high-needs and give them a second chance on education.

    Cons

Literally everything else. This company is unprofessional and greedy. Expect teachers to pay their bills with "for the kids" feel good attitudes, while they stiff teachers with noncompetitive benefits, pay and treat them like babysitters administering computer-driven education software in lieu of actual class work. Most admins have no experience in education. Upper management is bloated and out of touch with the... mission of education. Company outsources services to a myriad of expensive contractors, but never bats an eye to determine why they have trouble keeping teachers on staff. Constant turnover is a risk you can never avoid and if you teacher one subject, be prepared to teach 1 or 2 more of them. Completely unsupported by the management staff. Don't look for support of competitive pay. You won't get it. In fact, if you are a teacher, do not work for this company. They are not in the business of real education. Their only purpose is to steal from the commons, demonstrate poor results and deliver an overall sad experience in what education should be. White hat is single-handily making the case of why charter schooling is wrong-headed and needs to be abolished. Money > students.

    Advice to Management

Close your company, resign your positions and apologize to the tax payer and the students who were steered into your 'education' program.

I worked at White Hat Mgmt full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great group of co-workers! Some flexibility to work from home when needed.

    Cons

Upper management at White Hat really lost site of what was important - the students. We went from a student focused let's help improve their education and help t hem learn the way they learn to no more teaching and all the students doing computer programs. Good programs were cut that the students were involved with an excelling in. As an employee you were constantly on edge as they had mass firings several times... throughout the school year and it wasn't based on job performance.

    Advice to Management

Remember the reason you are open and that is to care about the kids. I left when I felt like kids were no longer a consideration in decisions that were made.

    Pros

Co workers are great. The goal of helping kids is important. They understand one size does not fit all with education.

    Cons

Lack of support from management, pay is low, benefits are expensive. Only certain people are held accountable, lack of structure.
