The atmosphere can get a little too heavy. The floor managers were friendly but most of the sales associates were rude to the new employees.

I worked at White House Black Market part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun co-workers. I enjoyed the styling sessions and interactions with customers. The discount was really good when I first started, but has been decreased.

    Cons

Not enough hours. The store manager is the only person who gets full-time hours and benefits. The company doesn't want to pay anyone else's benefits. They will hire a bunch of part-time people and give each person one or two shifts a week. Everyone has to work several jobs outside of this to earn a living. Most all employees are struggling to get by. If you're looking for a company who really cares about employees, this isn't it.

    Advice to Management

Don't be so short-sighted. I would highly suggest investing in your people. There are so many people who love the company and their job, but can't pay their bills. Instead of hiring way too many part-timers and giving them one shift a week, hire some rockstars full-time. You'll gain so much more for that. Happy employees gives you happy customers.

I have been working at White House Black Market part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lasting connections with loyal customers, potential for huge bonuses if you make large sales consistently, flexible hours, decent associate discount

    Cons

Working holidays and weekends, sometimes long nights after closing for new floor sets or promo changes, no bonuses unless you sell at minimum $200 in one transaction (which isn't hard to do with this brand, but you have to sell $500 to get $20)

    Advice to Management

Stick to your schedules. You cannot change them at the last minute and expect your associates to know about the changes without alerting them. Remember to train with positive reinforcement.

I worked at White House Black Market full-time

    Pros

Love the clothes and used to love what the company stood for. I had a great team around me and they made work more "fun"

    Cons

The higher up don't always listen to the people that are in the day to day business of a store. The pay isn't realistic for someone who has bills to pay but then still wants to buy the clothes to help sell it better. Some managers were super supportive but then there were others who all they did was gossip and nothing ever happen to them.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your associates who are coming to you for advice or help. They want to learn how to do their job better not to be beat down and made to feel dumb.
