I worked at White House Black Market part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great discount on clothes. Fun to assist customers in putting great looks together, finding ways to use pieces differently, accenting customer best features and play down any problem areas and helping clients move outside their comfort zone and go for trendier looks. Helping customers feel confident and attractive.

    Cons

Managers who lack experience, people skills, ethics, common sense and a conscience and upper management who prefers to look the other way. Work schedules on weekends and holidays are brutal and uncompromising. Keeping stats and expecting the impossible with every sale. Pressure and unyielding requirements. Long hours on concrete floors. Not enough people working any one shift. I have never been treated so poorly or with less respect by a boss.

    Advice to Management

Keep your head about your power and your expectations of others. Be honest to customers, associates, upper level management and expect associates to do the same. Treat all employees and customers with respect and value. Listen when associates give suggestions or criticism.

I have been working at White House Black Market part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ok discount. Often times customers get better deals than employees. Taking time off is easy.

    Cons

You work for pennies and the company will not give raises. I often times do the work of the manager but they will not move me into a managers position. Unfortunately, I have become disappointed with the direction the clothes are going. They are focused too much on what's on the runway and getting away from the majority of shoppers who are looking for work to evening clothes. Company is too cheap to offer full time jobs unless you're in management.

I have been working at White House Black Market part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Fun people to work with
    Flexible hours
Discount on clothes across company brands, WHBM, Chicos and Soma

    Cons

Management misrepresents how much bonus associates in store earn, telling them they CAN earn $5 an hour in bonus while the average in our store is less than a $1per hour. So yes you can earn more but the reality is in our store even the highest earner average per hour is less than $2.50 and that is our manager who works 40 hours a week. So many associates leave after a short time because in the interview they are told they can make $14-15 an hour but in reality they only average about minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Store managers should not be paid bonuses on personal sells. They compete and steel customers from associates and don't work to help associates add on to sells or even train them to do this. They should only make bonus when the store makes its monthly goals.

    Pros

Typical retail job, nice to work with customers one on one

    Cons

There is a lot of drama with coworkers. It is not really a great place to work, learn, and grow.
