    Pros

Great benefits package, and the clothes are fantastic.

    Cons

Terrible training for managers, mainly because the "rules" in the company are constantly changing. Pick a rule and stick with it!

    Advice to Management

Train your store managers to put the right people in the right place

I worked at White House Black Market full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Managers are hourly, somewhat of a work life balance. Sales bonus available on personal sales . Good discount on clothes.

    Cons

The hourly rate is no longer competitive. Impossible to get good people. Company is struggling, so it is a negative environment. Nothing is done by District management to keep good people

    Advice to Management

Value your people. Don't just talk about the values, live them. Upper management should look into the turnover.... it tells a story

I worked at White House Black Market part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-40% off discount, 65% off full price items sometimes when there's a special employee promotion going on

    Cons

-Commission sales bonuses are an absolute joke
-Managers do not care even a little about their employees, college students and recent college grads are taken advantage of the most
-High turn-over rate, employees are walking out the door left and right
-10 min. breaks, sometimes no break if they "forget" to break you, you'll undoubtedly leave your shift hungry
-Outward and open disrespect from managers

    Advice to Management

PLEASE treat your employees with the same positivity and respect as if they were your customers. It's extremely discouraging to see the how nice managers can be to customers, but completely disregard their employees and treat them like crap. I was talked down to by an assistant manager who implied that I was "slow" and then lied to another manager about something that she had told me to do that I had apparently done wrong. I've overheard the same manager saying that the workers in our store "have no brains". THIS is the kind of management you're hiring to work at your stores!? No wonder there's a high turn-over rate. I'm now working at another store that pays less, BUT has outstanding management. Take notes, WHBM. Respect goes a LONG way.

Additionally, I was a seller at WHBM for awhile, but then stepped down because of the hypocrisy I was witnessing. Sellers who have been there for 5+ years are allowed to stand around, not "run" their fitting room, not do a "full pull", etc. but when I do it ONCE I get scolded, reprimanded, and told I can't be a seller if I'm not going to do it properly. REALLY!? This is something I witnessed every single day as a seller, and I eventually stepped down and took the role of cashier to ease the stress/pressure. The procedures of selling are not consistent at all, and there is a lot of favoritism when it comes to certain sellers. (i.e. some sellers are allowed to be laid back, but when I would forget to ask them for their shoe size it's the end of the world) Another thing to consider when it comes to your employees and management, WHBM.

I worked at White House Black Market full-time

    Pros

    The clothes are beautiful.

    Cons

No training. NO training. Entire district failing. Every store manager does things differently. You are boldly lied to about numerous things during the interview process. Worst experience in my career.

    Advice to Management

More field visits need to be made by DMs and higher.

I worked at White House Black Market full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

love the fact that their motto is "make every women feel beautiful." one of the last company's that work on commission and hourly. great product and discounts!

    Cons

not true to their "work life balance'', company offers to many discounts hard to make sales goals when they discount so much for the customers, doesn't give a boutique feel when everything is on a discount, makes it hard to increase profit when you have to work hard to counteract discounts

    Advice to Management

try to separate yourself from the threats of upper management, dm's and rsm;s can be pretty harsh and pushy
