I worked at Whitewall Galleries full-time

    Pros

I worked at Whitewall galleries for 4 years, in that time I had exceptional mentors, and a amazing team. This is a company that cares about their employees and there is unlimited opportunity for growth, should you wish to move into different avenues within the company. They care about their clients and go over and beyond to make their staff happy. In my experience it is the individuals who come in with catty bad attitudes...

    Cons

Starting pay is slightly low but a great commission structure compensates that straightway. Generous raises are given once you put in your time as they value hard working staff.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work, I have and will continue to recommend people to this wonderful organization.

I worked at Whitewall Galleries full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This is hands down one of the most incredible business' I've ever had the pleasure to work for. The training and support offered is second to none and the clients and artwork you deal with daily are just fabulous! Of course there are things that could be a bit better but that's the same everywhere - this difference is, this business want to make the changes and I know are working to do it!

    Cons

I had to leave as relocating abroad with my partner otherwise I wouldn't have left!

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing - it's a fantastic and exciting business to have been a part of. I wish Whitewall all the luck in the future. Bon Voyage!

I worked at Whitewall Galleries full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Amazing People, Fabulous atmosphere, Great ethos, Supportive Management. This really was a fantastic company to work for. My manager was brilliant, so supportive and almost 20 years younger than me and i learned so much from him. My area manager was the same, she was so engaging and motivating. It is a beautiful space to work in. The training you get at the start of your Whitewall journey is second to none and...

The only reason for leaving was the earning potential. Either the basic needs to go up or you should earn commission on every thing you sell when you hit your target.

I worked at Whitewall Galleries full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Poor experience. Low commercial ethics, disconnection from the shop floor.

    Cons

I took this job out of desperation as I just needed a job. I have since moved on to a career structured professional business where training, development and staff engagement are on the agenda. At Whitewall they talk to you about being totally accountable for todays trading. This is true as you are 100% held accountable and no one above you will help - you are truly on your own. I am a very successful sales person but...

I worked at Whitewall Galleries full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Meeting fantastic clients, buzzy environments when the gallery was busy. Excellent training and support from head office and area sales manager. I get the impression the company is really trying to change from being a hard sell/pushy sales environment and I would feel really inspired at the various and regular training events. I made some good commission in the first few months despite being in a low footfall gallery....

    Cons

Unfortunately the positive company ethos was not always filtered down to gallery level. A colleague told me I was not posh enough and did not have enough gravitas to sell art. I was also told to wear more make up or the clients wouldn't take me seriously...this was a country gallery and I don't think I look toooo dreadful, the sales generally seemed to prove otherwise! I was told the CCTV cameras are because the managers...

    Advice to Management

It just seems a shame that a company making really positive changes in so many areas still does employs people that are known to be dishonest and display disgusting behaviour ( I only had to google the troublemakers name to find papers on "unfair dismissal" from a previous gallery). I guess it's really tricky to try and control the environment in the gallery, but this is the one sales people have to cope with everyday...

    Pros

    Manage your own client base

    Cons

    1. Geriatric CRM software that crashes all the time - might want to upgrade but doubt they will. 2. Advertise OTE salary but in reality base salary and low commission explain high staff turnover. 3. Lots of back-stabbing and bullying - heard some female employees to be told to wear make up and high heels on the shop floor to drive sales. 4. This is not an art gallery job which requires skills and education...

I worked at Whitewall Galleries full-time

    Pros

-Lots of lovely art that you get concessions on - If you put the work in, you do get a lot back - You build lovely relationships with clients as selling art is really quite personal

    Cons

    - It does depend on the team of people in the gallery you work in as they are small teams - it is a sales environment, so they will ask you to sell- if that’s not something you enjoy, this probs isn’t the job for you

I have been working at Whitewall Galleries full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Whitewall is a company that helps you achieve your highest potential. There is support at every turn if you reach out and ask for it. They want you to succeed and love coming to work every day! Every day is different and if you want a position where you push yourself, get rewarded and appreciated for your successes and have fun every single day then Whitewall is the place for you. Join the company for the right reasons,...

    Cons

The interview process can feel a little tough- but the company invest a lot of time and resources into their consultants so its understandable. Some would see it as a con but you do have to put the extra hours in if you want to succeed. It's not going to be a 9-5 style day- every single day. But again- if you put the work in , you succeed and reap the rewards (like any role).

    Advice to Management

Honestly, in my experience- nothing. They touch base with you regularly with email and face-to-face meetings, try to help you with anything and put all the resources out there to give you the absolute best chance to succeed. You just HAVE to put the work in, and make the most of the years of experience that is around you.

I worked at Whitewall Galleries full-time

    Pros

This company's mantra to customers is that "Art can Change your Life". It certainly changed my life as I had a near breakdown working for this shambolic business. Run by fear and drama.

    Cons

Dull line management, not forward thinking, creates fear. Boring with little excitement apart from cold calling. Even senior figures have left in the last few months. No matter what level you are at, look over your shoulder and watch your back.

    Advice to Management

Hire humane people who can connect with staff.

    Pros

Get to look at art all day.

    Cons

I would've written a lot worse but Glassdoor don't want me writing the full truth I guess. -pressure -you have to be a toff to get anywhere -CEO swaby corrected my speech on numerous occasions during training -told I'm a risk and belittled -if you're not from money, you won't get on here

    Advice to Management

As much as a success Demonfort Art may be, pipe down and give real people who are good sales people a chance before bullying them into a clone of what you want them to be.
