I worked at Whitley Penn full-time

    Pros

Many chances to get to know fellow auditors within the company and around the city. Partners easily accessible for questions and/or guidance. Senior Auditors seem to want to see you do well (most).

    Cons

Work/life balance can be a bit straining at times depending on where you are reporting to week by week. Some times reviews can be a bit slow and all come in at once, which can be overwhelming and can limit your time to improve.

I have been working at Whitley Penn full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great Company culture, relatively flexible work schedule as long as you complete your tasks. If you're going to stay in public accounting, this is a great firm to do it at.

    Cons

There's no maternity leave and some of the managers are difficult to work with in certain industry segments.

    Advice to Management

Implement policies that place value on the employee over the bottom line. Policies and benefits aimed purely at retention and being competitive for hiring/recruiting are thinly veiled bribes that still do not show appreciation for the busy season hours & demanding clients.

I have been working at Whitley Penn full-time

    Pros

Huge opportunities for growth and working on a variety of clients. There are opportunities for exposure to a huge variety of industries and types of audits. Overall, the firm has pretty good benefits. I feel very appreciated and listened to. The potential for you to become a leader in the firm is great, you just have to make it known.

    Cons

Some managers can have unrealistic expectations and provide insufficient guidance to meet those expectations; however, this has not been the norm in my experience.

    Advice to Management

Offer paid family leave for new parents, this is becoming an industry norm, don't become outdated and fall behind by not offering this benefit. Also, consider available staffing before bidding on too many jobs.

    Pros

Great firm that offers advancement to all in a family oriented culture. The partners are involved in all aspects of my career and always willing to help, even during the busiest times of the year. What I really like is the investment they make in their staff as they prepare them for the next level in becoming true business advisors.

    Cons

The deadlines are just a part of the business. But that comes with any firm in public accounting. What makes the deadlines manageable is the culture the firm has created, which is one for all and all for one. Its nice to know you are not alone.

    Advice to Management

Continue the little things, like staff appreciation, casual Fridays, impromptu lunches and dinners and most of all just saying "Thank You"............this is probably the biggest reward we could ever receive, so don't stop.

I worked at Whitley Penn (More than a year)

    Pros

decent pay and training. Used to move on to better things

    Cons

Partner of Tax is vindictive and tries to mold people to conform to her ways. She has succeeded many times thus creating a horrible work environment because everyone talk down to you if you are not in their clique. You get treated horribly unless you do. I watched this happen too many times to too many people and decided to get out. The company itself is great just stay away from the Texas City office.

    Advice to Management

It's nice to be important BUT it's important to be nice. Stop running that place like a concentration camp.
