I worked at Whole Foods Market full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Ok benefits. Generous PTO that rolls over. 20% discount, and spouse gets their own card as well. FSA account for medical expenses that Whole Foods contributes to.

    Cons

Didn't feel like a team anymore. Felt as if certain people worked harder than others then those team members were left to pick up slack. Management doesn't try aggressively to fix the problems. After your topped off your there's really no opportunity to grow. Health insurance isn't great. I paid very little BUT the deductibles were getting higher and higher and coverage for certain things were taken off.

    Advice to Management

Listen to team members. Especially when they have been with the company for 10 years or more.

I worked at Whole Foods Market full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of fantastic people, easy access to promotions, advanced product training available.

    Cons

Operational centralization became extreme, preventing creativity, originality and personal growth.

    Advice to Management

Most management is very good at Whole Foods. Looking for ways to engage team members and find ways to avoid macro-management would help morale a great deal.

I worked at Whole Foods Market part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You received gain sharing from the profits of the store. The front end paid out gains depending upon total sales of the store.

    Cons

The store had a huge turnover in terms of managers. It made the job sometimes extremely enjoyable but also very difficult depending on who was managing the department.

    Advice to Management

    Reduce management turnover.

I worked at Whole Foods Market part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers are mostly awesome. Promotions are available frequently especially in larger teams like customer service

    Cons

Many customers are rude makes you hate the job. Company used to do more for team members as the years go on it gets less and less.

I worked at Whole Foods Market full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Industry leader in food retail.

    Cons

Too much micro management now. Environment is on decline for front line employees. Innovation is now discouraged.

    Advice to Management

Front line empoyees hear the customers complaints, listen to your employees

I worked at Whole Foods Market part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people who work at whole foods are very friendly. I worked there for a year and a half and considered my co workers my second family. Very flexible scheduling.

    Cons

Each shift lasted normally 8 or 8.5 hours. There was an occasional 4 or 6 hour shift in the summer. about 70% of customers were chill, and some even made you smile and laugh. But it seemed like everyday there were some mean customers with a big attitude that ruined my day for a stupid reason, ie. prices on items, long lines, that customer who comes in almost every day and buys a lot from the bulk section but never writes the PLU on the container and complains that you are taking forever looking up the codes.

    Advice to Management

give the teenagers who work there shorter shifts. They have a lost going on in there lives, especially their senior year of high school.

    Pros

Conscious about environment, great culture, used to be a wonderful work environment

    Cons

new management was put in place and they started firing people for the simplest of reasons.

    Advice to Management

Have more loyalty to employees that have been loyal to you for so many years.

I have been working at Whole Foods Market full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work environment (work in corporate). Flexible hours, casual dress, no micro management. People are mostly friendly and a lot of comradery on teams that work together.

    Cons

The benefits stink and pay is somewhat low. Little room for advancement without playing the office politics games. Little diversity in TM type (lots of young, rich, white kids). Management communication is poor. Latest focus on "cost-cutting" means team member benefits are cut instead of investment in better systems or process improvements.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your team members. Communicate.
