I worked at Wide Angle Youth Media full-time

    Pros

I worked at Wide Angle as a full time employee and felt that the organization's leadership (board and director) was consistently proactive in supporting ideas to improve workplace culture and programs - more so than many other small nonprofits in the Baltimore landscape. If a staff member is the right fit for the organization, Wide Angle will continue to invest in them over time to meet their individual needs. The organization works hard to raise money to pay people a liveable wage and full time staff are eligible for a comprehensive benefits plan. The work is often inspiring, challenging, and there is never a dull moment. It is a fast paced and thriving office space filled with creative and talented staff that truly care about both each other and improving the lives of Baltimore youth.

    Cons

Wide Angle is on a path of upward growth and this can mean that staff often have to take on more responsibility than is sustainable long-term. This is not a workplace for people who are looking for an easy gig - this is a place for people who want to work really hard to make a difference, and aren't afraid of personally growing during the process. During my time there I observed staff suffering burnout and lowered morale - myself included. This is a common issue with growing nonprofits though and I admire the risks and challenges that Wide Angle takes on to achieve its mission. They also have addressed this during my time there by continuing to grow the organizational budget and creating ongoing plans to increase capacity.

I worked at Wide Angle Youth Media

    Pros

Worked with people who genuinely cared about the kids they were working with and equipping them with skills they need for success.

    Cons

I was just an intern, so it did not affect me much, but they seemed to be understaffed and therefore had to work long hours.
