W+K offers an exciting creative work environment with a culture that supports taking creative risks. W+K also provides a supportive environment for advancement to those who are self-motivated.

    Cons

Work-life balance is not explicitly part of the culture or values resulting in very long work hours

    Great for a Summer

    Pros

Had a great time working with the other Resident Interns and working with the Design Studio team. Loved the food and community in the office. Was cool to work for big name clients.

    Cons

Long hours are expected and encouraged, expect working weekends and late nights. Hard to have your creative ideas and voice heard unless you are persistently vocal. Did not stay because I was not given a straight forward offer, only an internship extension that would "possibly" lead to a full time position at the internship payrate with no exact date of when it would become full time.

Amazingly talented people working towards one goal.

Not too many cons. You work some long hours; but, that's a given in the industry.

    An amazing place to work

    Pros

I'll start with the people. They were incredible. So caring, so talented. I can't speak enough about the folks that work in that office. Dan Wieden and David Kennedy are creative pioneers and some of the nicest, smartest individuals you will ever meet. The folks in HR and recruiting were simply amazing. So supportive. Just a wonderful collection of people. The office is an incredible space. Beautiful. Really got the creative juices flowing. With a gym, a basketball court, an atrium, a sprawling outdoor space, nap rooms, a library, and a cafe all on-site, it's easy to spend the majority of your day in that building without feeling trapped. Plenty of time spent working, but nice to be able to take a break for a moment and shoot some hoops between meetings. They were also great about understanding that creative ideas don't always happen while sitting behind a desk. There were days where I got up and left the office for an hour or two to think in a different space. I always came back to my desk with better, fresher ideas. Most places look at you like a slacker if you leave the office to concept - forget those people (I wish I could use a stronger word than "forget" but . . . ) Those are the kinds of CDs and ECDs that will keep your creativity bogged down because they themselves cannot think outside of their own constructed boxes. Don't work for those kinds of people. There aren't any of those types at w+k (at least not from my experience.)

    Cons

The hours can be long, and the pay isn't great, but that comes with the territory. That's just what this business is about. Long hours, crap pay for juniors. But compared to other places, w+k really isn't a sweatshop. You will pull your fair share late nights, but not as many as you would at a CP+B-type agency (BTW - NEVER GO WITH CP+B IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE OFFICE.) Also, the vision of Dan Wieden and David Kennedy has diminished a bit. Taking risks was once seen at w+k as crucial to creating amazing, groundbreaking work. Now, it seems many creatives (and especially the CDs and ECDs) too often stick to a formula when creating work to appease the clients. It has to be done like that sometimes to ensure the client is satisfied, but it happened far too often when I was there. When asked what he thought the agency needed to be successful in the future, Dan Wieden replied with "We need more people to come in here and f*ck things up like we did in the beginning. Seriously."
