Can be a great place to work. (Especially if work is your life.)

    Pros

Smart and talented people to work with and learn from. Inspiring energy – many people bringing their best game, which challenges you to do the same. Figures from a variety of creative fields are brought in to speak or perform – an unusually enriching workplace experience. Good benefits, including eventual sabbatical time.

    Cons

High profile agency and accounts = W+K can under-compensate employees. Work/life balance: no. Intentional 'culture of chaos' translates to many unnecessary evenings, weekends, and occasional all-nighters, even for non-creatives. Manager feedback may be held back until annual review, then used to impede salary increase and advancement opportunities. Some managers/superiors may take credit for employee's ideas and innovations. In short, same old workplace politics in slightly trendier outfits.

    There's a reason they're #1

    Pros

Overall this was a fantastic place to work. Great culture, minimal politics, great clients to work on. There's a reason they won agency of the year in 2019, and the people are a big part of that. * good work/ life balance * good culture (work comes first) * amazing office in Portland * very nice corporate housing

    Cons

Nothing major, but you'll have the same issues that any major agency. Also the structure of the teams changed drastically during my time there. But although I was present during a time of turmoil and change, I respect the way the company handled it. Felt like I was part of a team.

Fun environment & parties but you will pay

    Pros

Fun! Parties! Drinking at work (pro and con) Decent work life balance Activist culture

    Cons

Unless you are a creative your pay will suck If you are not an account person, producer either, you will make an amount that amounts to low-income. Activists culture feels fake after a while, paying and keeping women and people of color would show they actually care about change.

    CONTROLLED CHAOS!!

Dec 9, 2014 - Anonymous Employee in Portland, OR

    Pros

Wonderful, VERY NICE people to work with (side-by-side). There are a tremendous perks. Work/life balance for parents is exceptional. Work/life balance for those who choose not to procreate, is awful. (In fact, if you don't have children and you make that known, be prepared to commit your life to the agency and be tapped on for all the things the 'family' people leave behind).

    Cons

Controlled chaos. The creative spirit is too encouraged to the point of unprofessional ism. Management prides themselves in having long-term employees, but many of them have lost their ability to behave themselves professionally, and are not held to a professional standards by their managers. Low pay. (If you work for another company, be prepared to be low-balled into working for the brand name of Wieden+Kennedy). Low bonus structure.
