I worked at Wilkin & Guttenplan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Great work/life balance
-Lots of food during tax season
-Lots of snacks and drinks in the kitchen for all staff
-Executives try their best to engage "fun" into the culture
-Excellent place for those who are Accountants

    Cons

-VERY minimal growth for Administrative professionals; few opportunities to grow and develop strengths
-The primary Shareholders are reluctant to be open to sales/marketing ideas; ideas are not supported
-ALOT of turnover (ie: people leaving for other opportunities)

    Advice to Management

LISTEN to your admin team and allow/encourage them to grow aside from their daily tasks (ie: EVERY admin should have intermediate to expert understanding of MS Office, such as PowerPoint, etc). Culture is not entirely true to what is expressed; lots of contradictions from the executive team and very unprofessional and biased HR staff.

I have been working at Wilkin & Guttenplan full-time

    Pros

You get to make your own hours which is great. You get to work with a group of different people all the time and you're allowed to try to explore into areas that are new to you. They often allow you to perform both audits and tax work. It has a small office feel to it. Great benefits for work life balance and overtime. You can take as much time off in the summer as your overtime bank allows.

    Cons

The audit department is mostly made up of performing condo association audits. You perform a lot of accounting for these audits that typically aren't done by most public accounting firms. The engagements are always small which means a small engagement fee causing you to work under a lot of pressure on billings. The condo audits won't give you the experience you need to obtain a job with a larger private company. The 'brand name' isn't well known and other employers won't know the firm you worked for making obtaining future interviews hard. It's also very clear which employees the managing partner favors, those employees get special treatment.

    Advice to Management

Invest in all your employees. Not just the favorites. Culture isn't just free food and office parties.

    I worked at Wilkin & Guttenplan full-time

    Pros

For those who are looking for a successful and rewarding career in tax or audit, this is the place to be. W&G goes above and beyond to ensure that staff are growing and learning but also maintaining a work life balance. Staff are able to work closely with upper management and are exposed to client communications early on. The firm also provides flexibility in work schedules as well as working remotely which allows for a great work life balance as well as those for working parents. The culture and the people are what sets W&G apart from other accounting firms. I have made many friends while employed at W&G and will continue those relationships. Lastly, management and HR are also able to identify those individuals who absolutely do not fit the culture of the firm and take appropriate actions.

    Cons

It is public accounting so inevitably there will always be long hours during busy season.
