I have been working at Williams full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great people and flexibility

    Cons

The restructuring has taken a toll on everyone. Attitudes have changed. 9/80 schedule was taken away for no reason, now working a ton of hours with little balance.

    Advice to Management

The 9/80 were greatly appreciated and encouraged everyone to want to work more simply because we appreciated the perk. Would be nice to have back.

I worked at Williams full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent work-life balance and workload. Low stress. Good resources - technology to do job and assistance from others.

    Cons

Company required travel expenses paid by employee up-front and reimbursed at later time. Gas industry is cyclical.

I have been working at Williams full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Solid work/life balance. A lot of opportunities to do rewarding work as a young engineer. Competitive pay. A lot of very good people who work there.

    Cons

The safety culture could be improved, there have been a lot of serious incidents over the last few years.

There is a lot of uncertainty with the future of the company now. Williams took on a lot of debt and are now paying the price with energy prices down. There is a good chance they are a target company to be bought in the near future (even after the ETE blunder). More layoffs are expected, major assets are being sold, and contracts with customers are being renegotiated.

I worked at Williams full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great and valuable experience - skills and experience gained are highly transferable
Easy going culture - micromanagement is not big issue at least in the E&C world
9/80 schedules - flexibility in work time
    Great benefits, great pay
Proximity to the galleria is a nice perk

    Cons

The good-ole boy network is very strong here. Great if you are favored and very difficult if you're not favored by management, regardless of how competent or hard working (or not) you are.

It is difficult to move around in different departments in the E&C unit.

    Advice to Management

While it is human nature to rely on friendships to develop a strong work unit, it needs to be balanced so that competent or new employees are not undermined or discouraged. Performance and competence should be recognized and rewarded more so than simply friendship

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Was a great company to work for, like a small family, everyone had your back

    Cons

structure has changed, budget tightened, looking for reasons to get rid of people

    Advice to Management

Don't beat the donkey to much or he will just laydown.
