I have been working at Williams-Sonoma full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - great discounts
    - nice people who care about the customers
    -

    Cons

    - benefits are not competitive... only 2 weeks time off until you've been there for 5 years, no employee stock purchase or profit sharing, stock options/rsu for directors and above only
    - invests in the wrong things... willing to spend thousands, sometimes millions, on events and product but nothing on technology; all while expecting to be innovative and serve customers with the modern technology of today
    - some people have worked there for too long and not grown their skills. they are no longer capable of doing their jobs yet they stay and things fall apart
    - no work from home or other flex benefits

    Advice to Management

    - understand what it costs to develop and deploy enterprise systems. improve the budget process to actually fund projects rather than give partial financial support while expecting full scope delivery.
    - if people no longer have the skills to do their jobs, either train them or let them go. it hurts the morale of everyone else.

I worked at Williams-Sonoma as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Overall my experience was positive as a contractor. If I wanted another buying job I would consider Williams Sonoma but choose my team carefully. I worked at HQ and most people were positive, worked hard and my direct team was a pleasure to work with. The manager was great and she really had a good team of assistant buyers. Some employees spoke highly of their benefits- although I cannot confirm as I was only a contractor. They provide a shuttle and have a nice cafeteria.

    Cons

A few cons that stood out:

1/ Lack of resources and support for their employees. The employees work so hard to manage everything on Excel and archaic systems. It didn't appear to be very efficient.

2/ I witnessed employees get verbally castigated by senior staff. They host award ceremonies to recognize & reward respectful employees but then unfortunately I witnessed an executive berate an assistant buyer because of a pile of boxes. A complete contradiction.

3/ There are many many contractors. Many who have worked there for over a year-- no benefits and no perks, nothing.

    Advice to Management

Invest in consumer-facing technology to stay competitive. Invest in infrastructure so your people can work more efficiently and you'll see the ROI. Be kind.

I have been working at Williams-Sonoma part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The interview process was fun and easy. The staff is friendly and tasting food all day is not bad. The discount is huge for a company. The biggest I've seen offered for any company I worked for.

    Cons

The pay is not that good. The wait after hire to start is very slow. Not enough hours to make any money. Should be able to use discount online.

    Advice to Management

Better pay for seasonal. They don't get a lot of hours anyway so pa more for the convenience of calling in at the last minute or relieving staff for time off.
