I worked at Williams & Connolly full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers are simply wonderful people. Overall, the attorneys are personable people who respect the staff and know them as individuals. The people in HR truly care about the staff. The benefits are superb.

    Cons

As in any law firm, the expectation is to serve the partners right away with whatever they request. This isn’t a “con” so much as just a job expectation and the attorneys at W&C are great.

I worked at Williams & Connolly full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Corporate perks, benefits, exposure to interesting matters and attorneys if you’re lucky enough to be assigned to the right cases. If you want to experience high stakes litigation this is the place.

    Cons

The cons relate mainly to the paralegal department, not the firm as a whole. Managers are dysfunctional and unprofessional, and keep people with skills and abilities minimized without advancing them. Many of the department managers don’t grasp basic concepts about litigation and technology, and bully and bad mouth star performers in order to keep their big salaries.

    Advice to Management

Promote talent and intellect over the happy hour crowd. Clean house in dysfunctional departments.

    I worked at Williams & Connolly full-time

    Pros

Great corporate perks, many periods of downtime, opportunities to advance

    Cons

Racial minorities generally kept "at the bottom", paralegals are more file clerk than traditional paralegal (less transferable skill)

    Advice to Management

Attorneys and managers should give opportunities to everyone, not just kiss ups and their friends.

I worked at Williams & Connolly full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Exposure to high stakes litigation
Get to work with some truly great minds
Lots of responsibility early in your career
Great benefits including Profit Sharing at all levels

    Cons

In a firm full of top litigators with the top backgrounds you will need to be able to deal with Type A personalities. If you can't this isn't the place for you.

    Pros

Hard not to learn something when you are surrounded by smart, driven people.

    Cons

Work for paralegals is often dull but important. Long hours at times, but that's to be expected at a firm like this. Not especially helpful for career development, legal or otherwise, but you will be well paid while getting an inside look at some interesting cases.
