I worked at Wilshire Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great location and a lot of great people worked there. Can't beat the beautiful every day weather in Santa Monica!

    Cons

Company ownership remains a big issue and the good employees are not always valued. Cash bonuses can be sizable but only get paid out at the end of the year.

I worked at Wilshire Associates full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is an opportunity to work with many intelligent people.

    Cons

Where do I start? First of all the benefits aren't great. No 401K match, no help with CFA or grad school costs, low raises and bonuses, etc. Upper management either doesn't care or is completely unaware of the fact that most employees in the firm are grossly underpaid. Unless you are a managing director or above, you're probably making significantly less than you're actually worth. Also, the reward for hard work is...more work. Bonuses and compensation are relatively the same for across the board, regardless of work ethic and contribution to the company. There is a lot of turnover. Much more than the industry average. Upper management will continue to beat the "there is a lot of opportunity here" drum, but realistically, there is very little unless somebody at the top decides to leave, which is rare. This is a place to get some decent experience and move on to a better company.

    Advice to Management

Try and take some of the focus away from their own compensation and look at the rest of the company. There is a reason this place has so much turnover.

    Pros

Wilshire is a name brand firm with several high profile clients. The work is interesting as the markets are constantly changing.

    Cons

There is little room for growth, the company itself does not seem to be growing or adding new people. Some divisions perform far better than others.

    Pros

Wonderful location and people. A branded name and platform for the career.

    Cons

Average player is a too conservative goal for the company with so much potential to capitalize its brand

    Advice to Management

Load people more responsibilities and give them more

I worked at Wilshire Associates full-time

    Pros

Great location, monetary compensation is fine, more or less flexible hours, professional environment.

    Cons

If your job is programmer then you won't learn much here. Technology is old. Promotion and bonus are very arbitrary. Not so friendly environment.

    Advice to Management

You should upgrade technology to attract and retain skilled workers.

"Not a bad place, great location, mediocre management"

    Pros

Small office environment, awesome office location almost on the beach, lots of great people, albeit some junior staff are underpaid. you can stand out if you work hard AND brown nose the right people, private equity funds business is a cash cow, basically runs itself and investors are locked up for 10 years, very relaxed day to day work environment, 8-5 job.

    Cons

Nature of their work does not really foster ambition and development aspirations, as work is fairly low in complexity, decisions are made over the course of quarters. in this sense, hard to advance since good opportunities to take charge are rare. Not the most innovative business model (anymore) and the firm is not aggressive in developing new business opportunities. management does a poor job communicating and providing leadership, guidance and tutelage, operations management lacks motivation, lots of people just coming in for their daily grind and going home. definitely do not recommend working here if you have less than 5 years experience since you will be paid very little with few options to advance.

    Advice to Management

It's a stable, steady business that employees stable, steady people. Communicate better with employees, especially new hires so they know what exactly what they're getting into. Be honest with yourselves first about what this company is and does, then be honest to the applicants about their career prospects there.

    Pros

This company is better for people interested in Finance. Several groups are very profitable. If you join that group, you will enjoy a good promotion opportunity.

    Cons

For programmer, it is not very technology oriented. The hiring process is varied from group to group. Some new hired people I saw were not even able to finish the jobs. The interview process might need change or find someone more technical to guide the overall interview.

    Advice to Management

    Hire more smarter people

    Pros

Wilshire provides a good name and exposure to some of the largest institutional investors in the world. You'll also gain exposure to a lot of institutional investment management firms in the world. Certain senior consultants are very experienced and you can gain a lot of experience if they take you under their wing and provide you with the opportunity to learn. Your peers are usually great people and you'll make a lot of friends.

    Cons

Consulting teams are very silo like and do not communicate much with each other. Senior management is very secretive in their decision making process. Does not view home grown talent as equal to outside MBA hires. The salary and bonus can be very different for people at the same level.

    Advice to Management

Communicate better at all levels. Treat home grown talent as equal to outside hires.
