I worked at Wilson Associates as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -most people are friendly.
    -office dogs!!
-fun little events here and there
    -nice office

    Cons

    - Computers. all of their computers are old. more than half of the time i have to wait for the computer to respond. Or it'll lag and crashes then ruins all the work you've just done.

    - it doesn't bother me as much since i was an intern. but almost every night people have to stay late to finish work or catching up to deadline. thankfully i get pay for overtime, but for the full-time people they do not get pay for staying extra hours(usually until 8-10).

-there are times I will have nothing to work on, then sometimes there will be too much to be done in one day.

I have been working at Wilson Associates as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

They are a high end firm with an amazingly great reputation for always going above and beyond and creating majestic interiors. The office is full of knowledge, gorgeous samples, personality, and great food!

    Cons

It is a larger company, so you don't always get to experience every part of a project or see an install.

    Pros

Open communication between executives and employees, good work/life balance, potential room for growth, good benefits & 401K

    Cons

    No bonus potential, low salary,

    Advice to Management

Take a look at what other firms are paying. $45,000 is low compared to others. Also, most us of work overtime to complete deadlines and there are no bonuses or compensation for that hard work.

I have been working at Wilson Associates full-time

    Pros

    * good relationship between colleagues
    * opportunity to work with 5 Star Hospitality Clients

    Cons

    * Singapore office - the medical benefits of lower ranking staff is different from the higher ranking staff ( this part is quite unfair) every one should be treated equally in terms of medical benefits irregardless if they are just a designer or a design director because they are both human beings.

    * long hours of work, project manager doesn't really care about the employees welfare if they work long or not. they will only think about the billing and the money aspect of the project.

    * not enough support from the management

    * Singapore office does re-sizing (retrenchment) almost every year and it is quite traumatic since they will do it every week and you will not know if its your turn to be terminated or not. they will ask you to go right that instant without any project turnovers.

    * basic needs ( coffee, tissue, dishwashing liquid) could use some improvements as well as office supplies.

    Advice to Management

Singapore Office Management should be changed, Wilson Associates is a World Class Global Company - but it doesn't feel like that , rather it feels like working in a small design build company in Asia. learn from the likes of Aedas, Gensler - in terms of how they treat their employees (Benefits wise ).

The Interior Design industry has long working hours but the benefits and good upper management makes it worth staying in the company.

  8. "Design Manager and Design Director for some projects"

I worked at Wilson Associates full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very well set up specifications system and stafff division of tasks. FF&E staff is dvided into junior, intermediate and senior designers all designated to work together when making a team for a project. Juniors pull images and source basic fabric palettes, mid level write specs and senior deisgner make the final FFF&E selections and present to clients. Senior FF&E and architectural designer also works on the various floor plans and interior architecture with the Design Director. Other department is AutoCad and 3D. Autocad are also assigned to a team with FF&E to make a combined full team for a project. Design Directors work closely with the senior FF&E designers recommendations and leads the interior architecture with the assistance of the Senior Interior Architectural Designer whilst both generally present interior architecture and FF&E to client together as the micro team.

    Cons

No cons only sometimes due to tight schedules and deadlines and it was diffacult to secure backup CAD staff on a timely manner to revise floor plans after meetings with clients.

    Advice to Management

    I reallly liked the management.

I worked at Wilson Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very Generous Wage. Traveled a lot in different countries when I was there. A whole one week time paid time-off on the week of Christmas where the office shuts down for the holidays. Got to interact with talented colleagues from all over the world since its an MNC. Fun Thematic Dinner and Dance Anually.

    Cons

There's not much window for growth. You can get into a trap of being Marginalized. The company values , became a Question of "Quantity over Quality" so , quality of work becomes "Hurried" , the balance between work and life gets compromised with long hours and ridiculous deadlines.

    Advice to Management

Its the creative thinking that made the company a big player in this field and produced Magnanimous Projects, The creative process of producing Quality work will always be beneficial to a Design company, not Quantity.
