I have been working at Wilson Elser full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very diverse practice areas. Deep litigation experience. International reach. Family-first work environment, including part-time arrangements. I've grown more as an attorney at Wilson Elser and been with the firm longer than any other office, and look forward to many more years to come.

    Cons

    Complex work from day one

I worked at Wilson Elser full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Generous PTO days if you can manage to use them.

    Cons

Stay away from this toxic IT environment. I've been in the IT industry for well over 25 years and I can honestly tell you that Gerard Pento is the worse CIO I've worked for. He enjoys blaming others and lacks any good leadership qualities.

    Advice to Management

Time to look for a new CIO.

I have been working at Wilson Elser full-time

    Pros

Very flexible hours, plenty of OT opportunities

    Cons

There's no culture, nobody talks to one another, you can hear a pin drop in the office most of time, management is so unorganized it makes your routine chaotic, starting salaries are close to the poverty line in the county, and absolutely no growth opportunities. You pretty much show up, do your work, and go home every single day. Very high volume workload for a job in which the attorneys can care less for. It's a thankless...

I worked at Wilson Elser full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great PTO, the IT staff is a great group of people that are fun to work with.

    Cons

The CIO runs the show but he is not a leader. He has no vision, not does he understand the environment. The CIO plays the blame game. He will find a way to minimize your input. You will get blame for a minor typo in a report even though you just resolved a major outage. If you want to work for narcissist, a complete idiot, then feel free to work for Wilson Elser. if you want to work for a CIO, that requires you to include...

I worked at Wilson Elser full-time for more than a year

    Pros

All of the attorneys are genuinely nice people. They really do care about their fellows/personnel, and management is available to listen and be flexible when needed. Lots of cooperation between the attorneys, and they really stress on being professional and ethical (very rare nowadays!). As an Associate, as long as you are billing your hours you will not get problems in taking some days off for a vacation or other...

    Cons

No 401k contribution; high billable requirement (2000 - 2100 to be bonus eligible); type of work in the Las Vegas office is pretty much only personal injury; lower pay compared to other firms that are the same size, especially when counting the high billables. Of Counsel/Partnership track is not really clear. I wish there a discussion with each Associates as how to get there from the very beginning, maybe creating...

    Advice to Management

With a few changes, this office could really be an amazing place to work at. Billables are really high, especially for an insurance defense firm where you are not really allowed to bill for all your activities. Allow for some positions part-time, completely remote, and/or hourly. It is hard, but you will be able to retain more talents.

I worked at Wilson Elser full-time

    Pros

Good reputation in the insurance industry

    Cons

They're always hiring for a reason. Lots of turnover. The billable hour expectation is at a biglaw level but the compensation is nowhere close, and you're nickel and dimed for every .1 hour. You're also set up to fail -- partners are hard to get a hold of and then play Monday morning quarterback on everything you do.
