I have been working at Wilson Sonsini full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Well-known 800 pound gorilla in the Silicon Valley legal practice. Lots of great tech clients and the chance to work on hot tech deals. Broad corporate practice: you'll learn everything from incorporating startups to VC financings to M&A and IPO and post-IPO public company work. Good name to have on your resume. Great training program for associates and tons of access to startup/SV events. Colleagues (partners and associates) are generally friendly, down-to-earth, and smart.

    Cons

Tough work load and demanding clients with unrealistic deadline expectations, which is typical for Big Law. Not great workflow management. Unless you're in a specialized area, you generally have to be a generalist, which you means you won't feel like you know any area of the law that well. Hard to make partner, but that's expected.

I worked at Wilson Sonsini full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Great staff and IT
    -Nice facility

    Cons

    -Poor management
    -Poor of advancement opportunities
-Hire new employees as oppose to promoting from within the firm

    Advice to Management

The attorneys and staffs were great. In over a year of observation, there was poor management with narrow advancement opportunities. When a staff position became available, they were mainly filled by new employees - great for applicants. There were no internal announcement for open positions. The advancement opportunity was not promising as I only saw one staff promotion. However, the firm's name has a positive reputation which was good for resume purposes. Management value their staff employees, however no reward/advancement was presented - a discouraging morale. Early in the employment I was excited to work for the patent team, but I was more excited to resign.

    Pros

    Cons

Still big law so hours can be challenging.

I have been working at Wilson Sonsini (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the smartest people around work here. Their community service and Pro Bono initiatives are impressive. Comp and Benefits are pretty good.

    Cons

Culture is all over the map. Comp could be better. There are silos all throughout practice groups and admin groups have not been nurtured to work together. But, there is a new focus on addressing these issues. I can see it getting better.

    Advice to Management

They are clearly working on things so hopefully the culture will improve. More attention to training and supporting those you've already invested in would be appreciated.
