I worked at Windstream full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Starting pay was higher than base pay for position.
    Good people to work with.

    Cons

Mandatory overtime is often used to try to make up shortfalls caused by bad management practices.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job filling staff needs.

I have been working at Windstream full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great experience for service provider network.

Numerous opportunities to work with other teams and get some cross-training.

Plenty of room for automation (both a pro and a con) if you are a script kid or programmer.

    Cons

Plenty of room for automation (both a pro and a con) if you are a script kid or programmer. Con for those who are unwilling to lean these skills.

    Declining revenues means declining staff.

Plenty of people who are full time employed who do not deserve to be. ( EX: at work 7 months in the past 24)

    Poor project management.

Too many VPs and Senior directors. They are eating up the salary budgets for Operations workers.

As with every company I've worked at, Sales is constantly rewarded for making deals that are blatant lies or technically impossible, thus forcing the buck to Ops to work out. Ops gets layoffs, sales gets trips to Aruba and Mercedes.

Too much outsourcing of engineering and planning to third parties that do not have technical expertise.

    Advice to Management

Your network is product. Treat it as such.

Decrease the bloated upper management staff.

SD-WAN is not a panacea. It will decrease revenues long term, as multiple analysts have stated.

    Build your own Cloud infrastructure.

Improve Broadband pricing for consumers and SMB.

I worked at Windstream full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It paid the bills....barely. No other pros.

    Cons

Horrible leadership, low salaries, old technology, absolutely no structure for supporting applications. The new CEO is running the company in to the ground at a staggering speed. My group was shut down with no warning. The work load was to be taken up by a group with less than half of the responsibility and knowledge that was in my group. Management was only concerned with making the numbers look good, at any cost. Salaries and benefit packages were absolutely terrible.

    Advice to Management

Support the people who support you and make you look good. Stand up for the little guy busting his rear end to make it through and never getting noticed.
