I worked at Windstream full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-The government requires them to pay every two weeks
    -401k match (company stock)
-Made a lot of friends, and met some very intelligent people

    Cons

    -Low pay
    -Lack of internal promotions
    -Lots of dead weight
    -HORRIBLE insurance / benefits
    -Management confused / unprofessional
-Annual raises top out at 2% even for 5 str reviews

    Advice to Management

-Trim the fat, and discipline staff that are worthless zombies. Promote from within and work at retaining talent, instead of letting it walk out the door over cash. --Also, 1% annual raises are a joke.
-stop acquiring other companies, you've already proven you can't consolidate companies (paetec, nuvox) computer systems that you inherited almost a decade ago.

I have been working at Windstream full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Vacation benefit is great, and there are some really fantastic people who are really fed up. Most leaders are flexible and allow working from home when needed. This is the silver lining from all the negative changes in benefits and salary increase. We are more flexible because it's the only "benefit" within our control to try to keep people coming back.

    Cons

Constant layoffs, poor Exec/Sr level leadership, horrible medical. In fact, all benefits have worsened over the years (except vacation time, which is the best thing about WIN benefits) constant org structure changes in the name of the customer, but poorly executed so customer continues to suffer. Overall, just a poorly run company.

    Advice to Management

This company is completely run by Finance guys who think cutting heads is always the answer. (The fact that we constantly find ourselves in that position should indicate the massive leadership problem we have. Most leaders know nothing about true leadership. Coaching and development is a joke, below average employees get passed around instead of disciplined and/or terminated. Hence the poor results and constant need to lay off. I mean, a layoff is easier than actually holding people accountable, right?) Wise up and change your methods! Truly put customers and employees first, is working for many other companies who are wildly successful. Oh yeah, stock price dropped again...so let's just keep doing the same thing and hope it goes back up.

    Pros

Peers were great, but low wages created great turnover

    Cons

Top heavy organization made to many acquisitions early in its development. None of the companies were integrated into a single system. Impossible to train new employees.

    Advice to Management

Sell of and stay focused on integration

    I worked at Windstream full-time

    Pros

Mid level managers honestly do want to succeed

    Cons

Upper level management is a utter disaster, with one poor choice after another. A fraternity, boys-club mentality amongst senior leadership prevents lower level employees from advancing, or ever trusting their superiors
