I worked at Windstream full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ability to learn a variety of technologies in a variety of use cases.

    Cons

    Little work-life balance in Operations.

No/Little respect for automation or scalability of services.

    Chain of management/communication is rigid and empire-building / military-like.

Compensation structure comparative to pole-driving ISPs instead of Datacenter work.

I worked at Windstream full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    They supplied us with coffee.

    Cons

The management I had were less than stellar. Direct managers did not stick up for employees for fear of being fired. Upper management crushed anyone who disagreed with them.

    Advice to Management

Start looking out for your employees and customers again. The bottom line isn't everything.

I have been working at Windstream full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

As long as you know someone you will have a job forever, no matter what a waste of space you are.

    Cons

4 years now they preach improve the customer and enployee experience. Their solution is rewards programs that are either round robin in the group or the bigger one popularity contest. One report after another is manipilated to cover up their failure that clueless management brings. The long time employees mean nothing if they think they can send the work to India, you are done. New hire's have no telecom training and recieve none. The ones that know what they are doing spend there day writing dumb down emails in an attenpt to get other teams to do their peice. Those largely go ignored and even when sent to their managers it is not address.

    Advice to Management

Tony Thomas needs to go and be replace by a Telecom guru. At that point all his buddie he brought in off the street can be weeded out. Hows that go, drain the windstream swamp. Next since this company was found by Americans, remove the pathetic outsourcing and market yourself as an American Business for America

    I worked at Windstream full-time

    Pros

Training was great. Severance package good.

    Cons

First in first out. I only worked about 2 months, I was still in training and doing better than some with more tenure. Layoffs came and I was chosen based on the fact that I was the last hired in that department. Those that had more tenure (even though I was doing better than them) got to stay. Something is wrong with this picture.

    Advice to Management

Give your new hires a chance. Why hire someone if you are going to lay them off in a couple of months.

    Pros

Salary is decent and some decent executives that have their hands tied

    Advice to Management

Make real changes/President level within BU's are just a bucnh of friends who have no idea other than blame the technology plaform and lay off more employees
