I worked at Winona State University part-time

    Pros

Flexible schedules for students means it's easy to get hours done at work between classes.

    Cons

The pay is only minimum wage, so it can be hard to save up. And during the school year you're limited to 9 hours a week at most.

I have been working at Winona State University part-time

    Pros

Great town to live in and great students to work with. Also a lot of opportunity for local culture and activities.

    Cons

Not enough opportunity for advancement. They tend to give jobs to out of towners instead of promoting from within.

I have been working at Winona State University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Since I am a student worker, it is easy for me to work around my classes. I can go to work as soon as I am done with a class and my work hours are flexible. The people I work with are amazing, brilliant, and a pleasure to work with. The culture is inclusive since it is one of the university's tenets. I feel valued and appreciated every day and everyone around me is focused on allowing me to grow and succeed.

    Cons

Since the university is a big place to work, it is hard to bring about change. Some of the strategies used are still old-school and it is hard to convince people to accept change in favor of creative solutions. However, since work is done in small teams, if your supervisor is appreciative and listens to new ideas, it is easy to bring about change locally and inspire other teams to do the same.

    Advice to Management

Be open to new ideas and change. Even though it is hard to bring about change on such a large scale, it will trickle down and improve the lives of the people we care most about: the students.

I worked at Winona State University part-time

    Pros

Working on campus at Winona State while being a full time student was the best job decision I could have made. Schedules were very flexible with class times and group projects. It was also convenient 'business hours' and no weekends!

    Cons

Training for learning ITSM database could be better, I was just thrown into it and expected to learn on the job.

    Advice to Management

Work on training part time student workers better.

I have been working at Winona State University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Small campus, Friendly staff, Well-mannered students, Reasonably good equipment, Good library,

    Cons

Higher education system is messed up; low budget, union, lack of leadership, superficial accountability.

    Advice to Management

The faculty who work hard have provided you with all the reasons you need to get rid of the faculty who don't and spend their time chasing politics and making life difficult for everyone. Stand up against the IFO union, evaluate the faculty and fire the dead weights....
