I have been working at Winona State University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Small campus, Friendly staff, Well-mannered students, Reasonably good equipment, Good library,

    Cons

Higher education system is messed up; low budget, union, lack of leadership, superficial accountability.

    Advice to Management

The faculty who work hard have provided you with all the reasons you need to get rid of the faculty who don't and spend their time chasing politics and making life difficult for everyone. Stand up against the IFO union, evaluate the faculty and fire the dead weights....

I worked at Winona State University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Faculty are represented by a union so the pay and benefits (for tenured faculty) are better than at most state colleges.

    Cons

Many departments are decades behind the most current research and best practices in the field.

    Advice to Management

Work on updating your department, course offerings, and course names - it is long overdue.

I worked at Winona State University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

My supervisor was very helpful and I felt comfortable reaching out to him whenever needed.

    Cons

The software used in 2013 to open and close calls felt very outdated. There were so many steps that even after a few months of doing the same thing over and over again I needed a sheet to review how to complete the steps. Now that it's 2017 I'm sure the software is now better.

I have been working at Winona State University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible work environment. Very nice office space. Training and professional development are supported. Feel more coached than managed in my job.

    Cons

Not much recognition. Have the ability to train and develop skills but no career path to match upgraded skills.

    Advice to Management

To let the employees know their vision without managing what we do.

I worked at Winona State University part-time

    Pros

People are very dedicated to helping you succeed. There are opportunities for advancement, and there appears to be valued shared governance.

    Cons

The pay is not great. There have been some valid concerns about overreach from the central office. A degree of autonomy has been lost.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing, for the most part. Allow and encourage growth in your employees - and support them in professional development endeavors.
