  1. "Tough markets for fundamentally good business"

    Star Star Star Star Star
Former Employee - Finance in Prairie Village, Johnson, KS
Former Employee - Finance in Prairie Village, Johnson, KS

I worked at WireCo WorldGroup full-time

    Pros

    - Global connectivity across various departments and sites
    - High-energy, motivated Finance & Accounting teams with direct exposure to Executive Leadership
    - CFO encourages environment and opportunities for various team members in organization to lead projects / meetings / etc.
    - Investments made across Operations leadership with Lean and OpEx background
    - Very focused on employee safety across all sites

    Cons

    - Indecisive PE owner
    - Strategy and vision unclear (likely tied to point #1 - PE owner)
    - Limited succession planning in place
    - Select markets served have been on a historical slump since Q4 2014. As with any business going through a trough, shorter term decision making is required and employees need to understand this. At the end of the day, that's the nature of running a business.

    Advice to Management

    1. Continue commitment to Operational Excellence
    2. Address and over communicate WireCo's strategy / vision
    3. Inspire risk taking, innovation and creativity across all levels in the organization

Management couldn't care less about the staff they manage.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees when they voice concerns.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at WireCo WorldGroup full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The promises that are made upon offer can include five weeks of vacation, support for education and professional development are encouraging. The new office is beautiful and much more convenient to the city.

Hardworking employees bond closely as they discuss the many ways the company is not what it used to be.

WireCo pays VERY well but be aware you may be working late (9-10pm is not unusual.). The money is definitely there - it's just not a long term job if you value work/life balance.

    Cons

WireCo is borderline discriminatory with zero leadership positions filled by females and zero efforts to support female talent. Employee engagement is abysmal. Turnover is crazy high and employees speak openly that they are ready to jump ship as soon as another opportunity comes along. Business relies on ancient systems and shifting sands. Processes are designed to support a small town factory rather than a global manufacturing organization.

    Advice to Management

Be honest that you are only staying long enough to right a teetering company, cash in on your equity grants and move on. The meetings where the CEO is screaming at the sales team loud enough to be heard down the hall are non-inspiring and feed a culture of fear. Proactively and deliberately foster a respectful and diverse workforce. Insist on diversity hiring efforts that will minimize risk of litigation. Communicate and listen to your talent before it walks out the door.

    Pros

Indoors lots of days off have one weekend off every other weekend

    Cons

After 3 years there will be no more raises at all for any reason then when their work slows which is every year around the end they get rid of people using seniority so new people get fired always. Even after 3 years

I worked at WireCo WorldGroup full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people; hard workers; interesting international component to company

    Cons

Executive management not experienced enough to lead a global organization, make snap/uninformed decisions based on heresay and gossip; authoritarian culture where pay is very top heavy and directors and below are underpaid by 20%; false promises to employees; old school manufacturing company trying to get out of the dark ages; if you like working a ton of hours and get paid poorly this is your company; located in the middle of nowhere USA; owned by a private equity firm so managed very lean in order to make the numbers look good - no investment in long term infrastructure (i.e. systems); uncomfortable working environment

    Advice to Management

Be honest with people (i.e. we are not acquiring Bridon, we are not going public, we are not getting bonuses, there is no work life balance). Listen to your employees.

I have been working at WireCo WorldGroup full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The wages and benefits are not bad for the area. It is air conditioned and heated for management. The company provides free paved employee parking area. When there isn't enough work the company generally cuts everyone's hours instead of laying off.

    Cons

Hot in the summer, cold in the winter. Machinery patched together. Management closed minded and unmotivated. A lot of forced overtime. Bathroom and break room very dirty.
