I worked at WithumSmith + Brown full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with and a generally fun environment, especially for the younger staff. Good environment to learn and grow in the accounting industry.

    Cons

Lots of hours, sometimes to the point of lacking work/life balance. There are some confusions around policy and transparency can be lacking.

    Advice to Management

If there is a policy, it should be followed consistently. Especially as the company grows and becomes more corporate. Confusions and inconsistencies over some of these policies can be unsettling.

    Pros

They give you the ability to grow as a professional by allowing you to work on a broad rage of different areas of the accounting industry.

    Cons

There is a lack of continuity within the departments. Procedures typically vary based on the teams you work with.

The software used to prepare tax returns is not the most popular.

    Advice to Management

Enforce firm-wide procedures across the board.

I have been working at WithumSmith + Brown full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flex time and work life balance. Good benefits. Good places for young staffs to learn different skills. Provide good training.

    Cons

Favoritism for certain people. Difficult for women to be promoted. Give out mix signals when CEO tells everyone one thing but some offices won't follow the practices or come out when their own additional requirements.

    Advice to Management

Don't make judgement of new staff right away. Give them time to learn and grow. Everyone's strength is different.

    Pros

Great culture and people. As a staff member, you gain experience in both tax and audit. Also, you work with and learn from partners on a daily basis, which is difficult to find in many firms.

    Cons

No major cons I can think of. Be prepared to work Saturdays during tax season as with any other public accounting firm. Other than that, the firm does a great job at having flexible work arrangements.
