    Pros

Wolseley UK is a company with strong brands. The company for many years led the way in their market but that is no longer the case!

    Cons

Under the Wolseley UK banner sits several brands. The brands are very siloed. This means with customers looking to consolidate supply chains, Wolseley UK is a difficult place to do this.

As with most large companies change is rarely quick and this certainly plays out at Wolseley UK.

    Advice to Management

    Look after you staff better.

Ensure the strategy is clear a all levels.

Remove the overload of senior management.

Start to innovate and lead the sector.

Stop aiming to offer what your competitors have. By the time you get there, they have moved on.

I have been working at Wolseley UK full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Was a great job on days with in-house transport.

    Cons

Out sourcing all transport to XPO, tupe drivers across and forcing to do lone in-night deliveries to branches.

    Pros

Good structure and some opportunity for advancement. Plenty of staff training.

    Cons

Little room to think for yourself. Stock, special offers, marketing etc all done centrally so branches can be locally very noncompetitive and out of touch with no ability for the local staff to be flexible.

    Advice to Management

Let each depot be far more locally flexible and responsive to customers requirements and needs.

    Pros

Some lovely people work here. Unfortunately said people are not recognised

    Cons

Far too many chiefs! Managers managing just one other person! If you speak up or challenge anything you will be basically told to like it or leave. Underpaid staff for level of work being done especially on lower wage brackets. When pay challenged and
valid evidence shown the higher management talk you round in circles so you have no chance of winning! Long working hours compared to other local businesses. Branches used as scapegoats and obviously over stretched.

    Advice to Management

Get in the real world. Listen to what staff are telling you!

    Pros

On paper there are many pro's. In practice however the pro's are heavily outweighed by the cons.

    Cons

Branch Managers are not Branch Managers. They are glorified shopkeepers. You are only the Branch Manager when something goes wrong or they don't like a particular business decision or outcome. Your honesty, integrity and professional opinion counts for nothing. The middle management are corrupt and very good at blaming the Branch Managers for their own lack of performance. If you are honest, a person of principle and not a sycophant, you won't last long in the job.

    Advice to Management

Too many chiefs, not enough indians. People deal with people, Not micro managers and endless, pointless KPI's.

    Pros

Enjoyed working as a Purchase Ledger Clerk; decent line and progressive management. Good team - friendly and good camaraderie.

I had two pay rises in the first year, but I put this down to self discipline and hard work (not impossible for anyone else!).

The flexi-time was great for me - who can argue with flexi time?!

    Cons

No cons for me - I was quite happy indeed.

    Advice to Management

I had good management - keep doing what you're doing!

    Pros

Finding it hard to find any at the moment. I guess job security would be the main thing.

    Cons

Not having much of a social/home life. A lot of responsibility to keep things running.
Can prove difficult to keep customers happy when having obstacles placed in your way by the company whilst having to juggle other job roles.

    Advice to Management

It doesn't hurt to invest in the committed, loyal and experienced.

I have been working at Wolseley UK full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Only pro recognised and to my advantage was share holding options offered to employees and providing you are willing to break certian health and safety regs to suit job completion your job will be safe!!

    Cons

Management in dundee drain are guilty of victimising certian employees through my experience..taking homage to health and safety being exercised hence making life difficult for you when you are exercising the standard health and safety code, then when seeking assistance from HQ you are victomised due to pointing out health and safety regs being ignored and ultimately forced into giving notice due to management victimisation and being protected from above regardless of situation...by far worst management then proved that HQ are there for management support only!!!! BEWARE OF WOLSELEY!!!!!

    Advice to Management

Stop playing gods regarding your blatant disregard in health and safety policies and practice as preached (so many fatalities/accidents to which most are not recorded)WOLSELEY SENIORS ONLY TO BLAME THROUGH SHEAR IGNORANCE IN COMPLYING!!!!
