I have been working at Wolters Kluwer full-time

    Pros

This is a conservative company, based out of the Netherlands. It is a solid company if you perform well and work hard. A good place for entry level or a later stage career.

    Cons

It feels culturally old fashioned and out of date on certain issues, such as working remotely, flexible time, etc. Employees don't get stock option incentives and salary increases are minimal. Incentive bonuses vary depending on position, but seem to be awarded regardless of how well one performs. Not much mobility within the company unless you are closely aligned with key executives.

    Advice to Management

Less talk, more action. Lots of good ideas and discussion about change. Very little action and realization.

I worked at Wolters Kluwer (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice people, lots of flexibility on work schedules, ability to work remotely if weather is bad or a child is ill.

    Cons

Not enough communication between departments, and too many people are solving the same problems day after day.

    Advice to Management

Get involved. Ask questions. Coach people to achieve real solutions.

I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed working in the education market. Wolters Kluwer is a global company with global plans.

    Cons

It sometimes felt that our team wasn't valued as part of the whole.

I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time

    Pros

Strong brand in market place (though diminishing in recent years)
    Lots of PTO
    Good co-workers (below Director level)
Started offering free coffee last year in cafeteria

    Cons

Executive level turnover every few years (regime changes)
    Lots of reorgs
    Lots of layoffs
Older veteran staff not valued or included in decision making
    Lack of transparency
Executives don't know the tax and accounting profession/industry
Cut throat, cover you *ss tactics and culture at higher levels
    Rank and file morale terrible
    Executives micro manage
Decisions made without thinking through the consequences - only bottom line focus ("we'll figure out how to deal with getting things done with 20 less staff down the road")
Great at cost-cutting (more and more getting outsourced), terrible at knowing how to grow top line.
Sales rep turnover is astronomical - probably greater than 40% per year
What executives say and do don't match - consequently no trust
Could go on much more - bottom line is the Research & Learning organization is dysfunctional ...

    Advice to Management

Not sure if this can be turned around given all the poor decisions made by Executives in last 3-4 years. Huge loss of talent in recent years.

Perhaps start over with real "leaders" who are experienced, know the market, are competent, transparent, know how to manage and inspire people versus current gang and how they operate. Fear is not an effective long-term motivator.

    Lack of upward career placement
    Lack of professional career development

I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good co-workers; good number of vacation days; decent benefits package, nice office space outside of the city.

    Cons

Management is terrible, does not listen to its employees about company direction; took away flexible work-from-home policy which enticed strong workers from outside the metro Boston area.

    Advice to Management

If you hire the right employees, you trust them; therefore, you should allow them to work remotely if they live outside of the 128-belt. Traffic to get to the office can take 2-3 hours for some employees.
