Overall a good company to work for

    May 29, 2014 - Supervisor Of Operations

    Business Outlook

    Pros

World Market has a starting pay above min wage and decent benefits. They tend to promote from within so there is always a chance to grow.

    Cons

Budgeted labor makes it hard to not overwork some employees while still giving others decent hours. Very strict on sticking to PTO vs PT employees. Around peak seasons the stress level is high and there is extreme pressure to meet all deadlines while keeping to the company's standards for sales and customer service.

    Poor Management

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Other Sales Associates are nice and easy to get along with.

    Cons

They provide inadequate training. Trained for about half a day and then they leave you on your own. Harassing customers into their 'World Market Rewards Program' just so their managers can get a bonus. Technology is outdated, registers need a much needed update. Management is rude and condescending to hourly staff. No room for growth opportunity. Managers play favorites and do not deal with problematic coworkers.

    Pros

World Market has a great service culture and believes in developmenting your team.

    Cons

There are no cons with this job, as long as you work through what you have going on in your day to day work routine.

Poor training, incompetent management, no team work

Dec 23, 2014 -  in Palm Springs, CA

    Pros

World Market is a great store with fun merchandise. Very fast paced environment, can be fun. The problem is the management sets you up for failure, talks down to you, never gives any positive feedback, expects you to automatically know every aspect of your job without training. It is a very demeaning situation, not to mention uncomfortable.

    Cons

Management sets you up for failure, talks down to you and about you behind your back. You never get any positive feedback, or any feedback at all, they say it behind your back. You are expected to know everything about your job with no training. You can work all day on a project and come in the next day and find it taken apart and changed. It seems management is never happy and wants you to feel like you aren't good enough.

    Pros

Cost Plus World Market has the best company culture in retail today. The focus of the company is people and customers. The company listens to the feedback from the entire team from PT to FT from stores to Corp office.

    Cons

No Cons to discuss at this point.

    Pros

Cost Plus World Market has a strong culture and value system. There is a lot of cross functional area collaboration. The compensation package is competitive.

    Cons

During key periods through out the year, the hours can be long. While this is expected in retail, comp time would welcome.
